Absolute favorite strongman of all time. Friendly, humble and incredibly strong. His upper body power and grip strength is stuff of legends. Im naming my son Magnus. It's a powerful and friendly name and means Great in Latin.

To this day, my 2nd favourite strongman of All time! Magnus and Svend are the two who made me addicted to the sport of Strongman back in late 90s. I would really love to see a collaboration of Hafthor with Magnus and Svend. It doesn't get more Viking than that!!!

I’m lucky I met magnus after a competition in Malmö. Magnus, Torbjörn, Nisse hult and the skåne-gang was there. Since i know kalle lane who is a great friend of Magnus we partied all night. Good times, This had to be back in 03-04

My favorite strongman. I love the competitions he promoted in Sweden, lots of events testing arms and grip. Arm over arm, farmers walk for max distance, deadlift without straps, atlas stones without tacky. Very different from strongman today.

When you reach at the highest level of competions in strongman, you are not drug free anymore. Sometimes during the process you are going to use illigal substances.

To be fair, his static strength was quite far below that of most WSM winners. I think he "only" deadlifted around 340 kg. Maybe a little more. For someone who is above average, I think it's possible to achieve naturally.

I mean he was not natural, but compared to todays top strongmen and Pudzianowski during his era, Samuelsson was probably using pretty moderate amounts. He was struggling with 330kg deadlifts and 300kg squats for many years.

Deadlifting 330 kg at his best, squatting 300, axle/log pressing 160/165. That is far from unobtainable. His FFMI would be pretty high, though. hard to get a specific weight and bodyfat percentage from any given point in time, but it seems like it would be around 28-30, which is very high. If he did that naturally, that's amazing, but looking at him now, he has the gear look and he's leaner than he was in the old days. Maybe the promoters got him to use some stuff and he didn't know much about how it works or how to make the best use of it.
@hanswick6003 ай бұрын
@@TheBcoolGuyHe was not some idiot who didn't know how to train or cycle. Deadlift and squat just wasn't his best lifts, he also had a back injury holding him back. He was bicep curling 140kg for reps and closing Coc #4 for reps. None of the guys competing today can do that. He was also benching around 300kg. You have to remember deadlift for max only became a staple event around 2010. In the late 90's there was far less focus on max strength in strongman. 165kg log press was elite back then. 350kg deadlift was average and not bad at all.
@TheBcoolGuy3 ай бұрын
@@hanswick600 I am not ragging him. I am Swedish and I look up to him as a lifter and as a man. His arm stuff and especially grip stuff was amazing. He did like a lot of body english on curls, but a lot of weight too. I meant that if he used gear at the WSM promoters' behest, he wasn't very into it and didn't do much to get much out of it. But I have gotten a better sense of weight and bodyfat at one specific point in time now with the ending of the video. It was 147 kg and 23-26% bodyfat. His FFMI would not be unreasonable or unschieveable around 26-28, though very impressive. He probably is natty, or at least was when he was competing. Whether he had jumped on the TRT trend in his fifties, who's to tell? Not quite true with the deadlift, btw. Yeah, more speed events back then, but in the nineties, Kevin Nee set the strongman DL world record at 410 kg. Magnus was a bit like pudz in shining more in moving events.
@hanswick6003 ай бұрын
@@TheBcoolGuy I don't even know what to tell you if you think he was natural. You cannot just bulk up to 150kg and compete at the highest level without taking something. Just recovering from the events fast enough would be impossible as a natural. Go back to WSM 2001, the heaviest max deadlift was 370kg by Glenn Ross, most guys pulled 300-350kg, Magnus was completely average at 330kg. Kevin Nee set a new record in 2008, the last year Magnus competed.
