With the advent of the great chess bots, this is completely possible. Magnus can examine the games and look at all the inefficiencies that existed, even when he wins. Probably he thinks he played much better than his opposition, but that he could easily have played even better.

@@haroldcruz8550no. Every chess player loves to lose themselves in tons of lines for hours. The problem is that the amount of preparation you need to study before the event is insane and mostly since there are engines most openings can be led to draw endings and so there is no more room for the human part. That's why Magnus always play side lines that are considered slightly worst, because at least that way he can take them out of preparation and play human vs human but that's not fair because he needs to put himself in a worst position than the opponent

@anujshastri1458 Жыл бұрын
I mean he enjoys playing Chess to his liking, so can you really blame him for not joining the race for WCC? He's just having fun, doing drunk streams, destroying others in TT while he's partying with Botez sisters and just experimenting along the way. And now that he doesn't have the title, he can do as he please. Ding became WCC and let me ask you, what really changed? Ding and Nepo have lost so many games already, they do not exhibit the same domination Magnus and Hikaru are capable of. It's not like Magnus hasn't lost games, but you know when he's in the mood for the game, his domination comes right through. The tournament he played after he was playing Poker, he played terribly and he admitted that he needs to get in touch with his roots again after staying out of touch for so long, but after that, he's shown what he always has been capable of. Classical Chess is too long and gets boring, everyone would agree, most of the games end up being a draw and you can see this in the current ongoing Women's WCC too. Rapid, Blitz and Bullet are more entertaining for people to watch and learn from. Let's not forget, the WCC between Ding and Lepo was ultimately decided by Blitz after they drew in the Classical games, so what really was the point of it all?

What does he mean by "lenght" of the games? Is it that the whole format takes too long or does he really not like each single game taking, idk, 6 hours or so? Or reformulated: What format would he prefer? Kinda sad that he lost the drive for the title. I had a hope that playing poker and partying with the Botez sisters may at some point make him rethink his decision to abandon the Classical World Championship ("What am I doing here?"), but he seems happy, and that's what's important.

There is more skill in games that are shorter than an hour. At the grandmaster level with so much knowledge and preparation, the time you get makes most games end in a draw for classical finals. But when you're forced to think quicker it really shows who the smarter and more skilled players are overall

He thinks it’s too long. He loves playing shorter time controls because there is a lower chance of a draw, classical chess at the super gm level almost always ends in a draw which makes it quite boring for a lot of players.

Well Magnus already achieved his dream of making a mark on the world of Chess, it's hard to motivate yourself to grind it for hours upon hours to get what you already have. I think it's simply what it is for Magnus, he just want to enjoy playing chess.

@@Cavamiva8 Okay, thanks for answering one of my questions. Now, are there any other GMs who agree that classical chess should have shorter time controls? Or is Magnus alone?
@Cavamiva8 Жыл бұрын
@@TheNameOfJesus More super GM's start to want shorter time controls, but if we're talking about World Chess Championship level players (top 5 players in the world) then no, because the only way they stand a chance against Magnus is in classical chess (because of the fact that mostly goes into a draw so more chance to get 1 lucky win and then win the event). Magnus is unbeatable in every chess mode except classical, because in classical all the top players never make mistakes since they have so much time so games always end in draw.
@TheNameOfJesus Жыл бұрын
@@Cavamiva8 Now that was interesting. I've always understood that the different durations of chess games constitute a "different game." For example, running a marathon is very different from running 100 meters, even though they are both "running". So basically you're saying that Magnus is like a runner who can always win at short and medium length runs, but not always win at long distance running. Even classical chess is a form of speed chess, because originally there was no clock for classical chess, and games could last 10 hours. Clocks were invented only about 150 years ago, however I'm unable to determine when chess clocks were implemented at a real world championship. I know that the "increment" part of a clock was only added to world championship chess in 1992.

Magnus is just too quick, and I get that he will easily get bored with waiting for 30 minutes or so until his opponent made a move that he predicted in more than 4 or 5 lines, I mean alphazero and stockfish are quick thinkers for a reason and we already seen Magnus playing guys like Fabiano or Nepo at almost 99% accuracy in a blitz game. The man is a computer with emotion. Only handful players in the world know what World Classical Championship means.And they tell horror stories about it. It is exhausting, few months of annoying and hard preparation work, then match, and then player has to recover from the match. At least 6 months of your life it takes. Spassky said, every W CH match ( prep, match and recovering period ) took almost year of his life, he played 3 matches and lost 2 of them . His matches were longer than nowadays, but still it is very hard period of players life. No wonder Carlsen who played 5 matches does not want to do it again, go thru all the pain and suffering. He already had it all and won it 5 times. At this point 6th title is not so desirable any more. For Nepo, Caruana, Firuzja, perhaps even for Nakamura the first title is very desirable. We`ll see what happens in next W CH cycle and who wants it . Looks like Carlsen wants to live more relaxed life. To play tournaments, have fun, occasionally stream. If he wins, it is fine, if he loses, it is not the tragedy.
