The game ended and I was still waiting for the "opening trick"

The opening trick was when black played ...Bh6 followed by ...Qh4+, winning back the sacrificed bishop. Black gets rid of white's good bishop. This wasn't played in the game, but was demonstrated as a possible line.

The trick was positionally based around f3 dealing with the knight, queen and opening complications of the Slav defense. This arises easily and regularly. I dealt with it yesterday twice with the light pieces vs the Magnus app on it's highest setting. So it's interesting to see him play against it since his app is designed to play his style, but it's actually based around common themes.

The opening trick is (0:46) 4.Qd2, baiting Black into (0:49) 4..Ne4 5.Qc2, and now d4 is protected by poison. Black knows the trick (it's surely book), and instantly replies 5..d5, dodging the trap even before Magnus can finish the sentence. The trap (which Magnus goes on to explain, voice only, not in game) is 5..Qxd4? 6.e3, and Black's Q can't defend the N, so a piece down on move 7 vs. Magnus. When he says (0:56) "So apparently, this is the way that people play", he's commenting on Black's 5..d5.

Absolute Chess, please don't obscure any part of the board with the captions. That makes it so much more difficult to follow the game and figure out potential moves. But if you feel that you must show the captions, then place them on the left side of the display so you obscure your logo or Magnus instead. Thanks.

Captions are done by youtube. You can turn them off.

Thanks, but FYI, that didn't work. I went to my youtube settings, then hit "performance and playback" and unchecked the "subtitles and closed captions". Then I reloaded this video and checked to make sure that setting was still unchecked. But the captions are still showing. @@Scientist19exe
