@Lucas Roberts I mean it was two drawn rounds, so it should definitely be possible. And yet...
@10010110110103 жыл бұрын
@Lucas Roberts It's so weird how he can get a good advantage vs Magnus but then mess it up. I think it's psychological. And while Magnus should have a better record vs him, holding a higher elo, I think their actual tournament record is worse than one would expect for Nakamura. Just look at this one: he blundered during tie breaks (literally just hung a bishop), and during one of the rounds Magnus needed to win but Hikaru pulled off this neat knight sacrifice which gave him a good advantage, and if he would have won, he would have won the whole round. But he still messed it up and Magnus ended up winning anyway. His record vs Magnus stays pretty bad, with Hikaru eliminating Magnus only rarely. He may think it's playstyle but I think Hikaru would really benefit from some serious but casual (ie not in a tourney) games vs Carlsen.
@10010110110103 жыл бұрын
@Lucas Roberts I recall watching it rather live. He had a good advantage after his knight sacrifice, but then lost the game after messing up. In blitz (I didn't watch that one live) he literally hung a bishop...don't get me wrong, all this means Magnus outplayed him of course.
@alkavonstra54793 жыл бұрын
Such an incredible first round! I love the way Hikaru and Magnus went blow for blow like that. Just two Super Grandmasters fighting to the bitter end. Each win forcing the other to push harder the next game. Then the Blitz rounds showcased the brutality of Magnus and his ability to shut the opponent down completely. For a while, I was cheering for Hikaru, but damn, the Champ really held everything. Giri/Radjabov was a bit disappointing, but then again, I didn't want either one to get knocked out. MVL/So was kind of wacky to me. And then there's Fabi/Ian. Had my heart crack a bit during that French endgame. Now, for the semi's and finals, honestly, I don't want Ian vs Carlson. We will get plenty of them later this year, and I don't think either one wants to spoil their prep prematurely. Even then, it would still be the most hype outcome of the players left, IMO. Anyway, you're doing awesome at commentary and content, Levy.

Hikaru straight choked. He’s a great player but he clearly can’t keep his emotions in check.

If you see how easily Hikaru destroys literally everyone, it's nothing short of terrifying that Magnus seems to always beat him in matches

Levy the last few videos have been some of your best commentary ever. You're a HUGE role model for engaging commentary and force of personality. Keep up the amazing work, you are appreciated. The knowledge that you pass on has turned this 1100 into a 1300 :) Edit: also your shirts are incredible. Have you seen the crab shirt on The Bay by a Fish Named Fred? Seems like your style

I am from France and I agree with what you said about MVL. He likes to create chaos even when he could play solid. Thanks for your recap as always.
