I tried a maha chanook mango about 1 year ago from a supermarket. I live in Perth Australia but the mango was grown in NT, Australia. The maha chanook variety was grafted onto a Kensington Pride variety mango. The flavour was quite complex but one of the best mangoes I have ever tried. I’m sure you will be very pleased to try your maha chanook when it’s ready. The Kensington Pride mango I grew until recently, the downside with the Kensington Pride mango is the fibre otherwise fresh off the tree it is very good. I fully expect the maha chanook to be even better off your tree.

You should cut it shorter after the mangoes are ready. It will help the tree big time. I trim my tree quite often and always come back stronger and more vigorous

Where do you buy Alfonso mango plant?

I bought it from a local Nursery in Phoenix, Arizona. There are few who sell mango trees. Google GreenLife Nurser.

No unfortunately you cannot. Mangoes are tropical trees, they like a temperature range of 50 to 100 approximately. Anything below 32 they will freeze and die. New York winter will freeze and kill the mango trees. The only way to grow mango tree in New York is to grow in large pots. Like 15 or 25 gallon pots. In winter when temps start to drop below 40 you bring them inside the house. In spring and summer or when temps are above 40 you can keep them outside. But its a lot of work for few mangoes which the potted tree will give.
