In the 70s, I could not get enough of bands like Stanley Clarke, Jean-Luc Ponty, Frank Zappa and the Dregs...imagine my surprise at discovering that sound is alive & well in India! When my friend here in the States told me he was moving back to Calcutta, I tried to talk him out of it--if this is part of what was waiting for him, well, the more fool me.

Actually Mahaganapathim is an original composition by Muthuswami Dikshitar, the great poet and a great musician, Composed in the 18th century. He composed the kriti in devotion to Ganesha. All Carnatic musicians knows this Kriti.

She does over play and go off on runs that are truly awesome , but do not fit the occasion and simply ego driven and a bit too much. Her abilities are unquestionable on the bass but please tone it all down to fit the music and it will be much more pleasant and acceptable . She is a superstar to be sure , but also very young and still learning her craft and approach to seems to be perfection. Mellow down a few notches and relax a bit and it will be much better !
