Old timers have trouble remembering things because they have acquired many more years of knowledge than us youngins. I love listening to old timers and not my stupid peers who think they know everything even though they aren't 1/4 of the way thru life. Thanks for your time sir!

Great informative video. Very true that just a tiny speck of dirt can ruin a new rebuild. I'm not sure about the definition of a 'backyard mechanic'. The home mechanics I meet are all meticulous. It is, after all, (usually) their own engine and their own pride and joy at stake. Unlike a garage mechanic with time schedules to meet, the home enthusiast can devote as much time to a project as needed.

Fully agree, backyard mechanic will take better care of their own, but a lazy mechanic that hates his job will sloppy Joe over tighten the oil plug

I'm in a situation where my brand new motor failed. Installer reused the oil cooler but blames the builder. Connecting rod really black at the point of failure, could that be from the oil cooler

As for the hesitancy in the delivery, naturalness is better. Thanks.

That guy in the background didn't move the whole time. They could have at least unfrozen him after their game of freeze tag.

When my machinist gave me back the overbored engine block, the first thing he said... You will be fine only and ONLY if you keep dirt out during assembly, I cannot overstress it enough...

Use of scotchbrite pads used for gasket removal takes out bearings also.GM put a TSB out not to use scotchbrite pads for gasket removal. The scotchbrite pads have aluminum oxide in them and the little pieces get in the oil and the oil filter can't trap these little pieces from the scotchbrite pads.Gets in the bearings acting like a cutting tool.Antifreeze takes out bearings too after a headgasket goes bad not caught in time.

50 years ago I worked in my fathers machine shop i was fortunate enough to work with the European craftmens a different generation of the 30s and 40s and 50s,they seem to have a keen sense of machine expertise,my question is the feel of bearing and shaft there is a smooth feel does the bearing need replacement? I'm talking about an old bearing 50 years old ,not constant running but stagnant four Thirty plus years. it seems a waste of money replacing bearing that seem still good.if you could physically see pits on the bearing shaft of course it would need replacing but if it's got a nice smooth feeling I would say that the bearing would not be damaged why replace bearings ?theyadd up in money and I can't afford to replace all the bearings
