10:18 "Hey, what if I take this little motif and build my next symphony with it?"

It's so interesting to me how Mahler makes his pieces so accessible to the senses. Maybe it's just the bells, but this one is exactly what I imagine winter sounds like.

No way this is what I imagine spring sounding like 😂 I think this just speaks to the grandeur of Mahler, that three people perceive this symphony as three completely different seasons, yet we are all equally appreciative of the music. Cheers!

I think Mahler was imagining Summer since he wrote it during summer, and when explaining the piece he described it as being sunny. “But sometimes the atmosphere darkens and grows strangely terrifying, Not that the sky itself clouds over: it goes on shining with its everlasting blue. But we suddenly become afraid of it, just as on a beautiful day in the sun-dappled forest one is often overcome by a panic terror.” He also said that the opening bells weren't sleigh bells but Till Eulenspiegel bells, whatever that is.

While the 3rd is my favorite, I also have to agree. I can call this my "Summertime Symphony" if I could because the overall playfulness of the work reminds me of going on walks during the summer. Imagine.

The first and the fourth Mahler symphonies are the most romantic symphonies of all Mahler cycle, and the most comprehensive to all the people who are engaged with this genius. If you know the music in your head, it is very easy to follow the entire score. THANKS FOR POSTING.

Interesting what Mahler writes on the trumpets at 10:15. He uses that motive to the famous opening bars of his 5th symphony
@Timrath11 ай бұрын
Like Mahler, I used to live next to an Austrian army barracks, so I think I know where he got that motif from. It's the Flag Salute of the Austrian army (and in Mahler's time, the Austro-Hungarian army). It's what the trumpet plays every morning when the flag is paraded.
AW YEAH!!!!! This, 5, 8, 2, and 3 are my top 5 symphonies by Mahler. Didn't notice this was uploaded just 4 hours ago. This symphony makes me feel not only like summer has come to my home, it also makes me smile every time. I remember listening to it in my 8th grade language arts class two years ago and this having a profound effect, especially the Fourth Movement and First movement. I then listened to the full symphony last year in my freshman year Language Arts class while reading. This makes me feel cozy inside, and I (currently writing out sketches for my first symphony hoping that it might be my actual first after going through so many) am being highly inspired by Mahler's works. This is one of them. I could imagine one of the flute themes dancing with the Timpani in the finale of my symphony and everything 😂.

At 42:25 do I think Mahler quotes the clarinet motif from “Selig, wie die Sonne” from Die Meistersinger. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGisgX2ta8yprqc
