This is what happens when the best orchestra and the best conductor show how much joy they take in working together and in the essence of every miracle they create together. Last night: Strauss' Domestica - I was in heaven. More precision is simply not possible and 100 musicians were a carefree unit. That's how it has to be done and nobody can do it as well as my regular orchestra.

So far the best rendition of this piece in your archive is the first one by Sir Simon (not the farewell concert). The orchestra was thick and the tempo was uniquely full of energy and fluidness

In a way I think of Romeo and Juliet with this work, the music depicting clearly that it could all end happily ever after and of course as it does because of the overwhelming forces that doom the young lovers. As it would be a cheap trick to turn the Shakespeare work into a comedy (in the Shakespearean sense) with a happy ending, so it would be with Mahler's Sixth.

I was there!... sadly not as good as everyone expected... Tempi were too fast and sometimes not as expressive as you would expect from Petrenko! Still a nice concert. Looking forward to hear Rachmaninow :D
