Niners fan here. Stylewise, Mahomes doesn't remind me of Brady at all, other than the winning. He seems to me unique: the most naturally talented QB the league has ever seen. He does things that all of the greats in the past have done, but he can and does do more - more than Brady, Montana, all of them. Stylewise, Purdy seems much more a traditional, in the pocket pass first QB, like Brady, Montana and Brees - tho perhaps more agile and mobile. Purdy seems to have the intangibles like Mahomes and all elite QBs - quick processing, anticipation, mental fortitude, pocket poise, improvisation, etc. Football is a much more team-centered sport than other ones, so Mahomes can't win games by himself. Well coached opposition with talented players will always be in the mix.

There are certainly many other fine QB's in the NFL and exactly none of them are playing a week from Sunday, except Pat, and he's one bad outing against the Ravens from being voted the NFL MVP. All he does is win. What would he have to do for you to rank him in the top 5 current QB's?
@aimcm981910 ай бұрын
Like it or not, QBs are largely evaluated on wins and losses, and the degree to which they elevate their team. Purdy not only is 4-0 in playoffs game in which he played the entire game, but also converted a mediocre SF pass offense into a league-leading pass offense. And don't say, "But look at all the talent around him", when Jimmy and Lance had the same surrounding players but could not produce an effective pass offense.

You either believe Brock Purdy is the QB he's been since taking over the job last year or you do not. You can't look at his play, his record, his comebacks I'm consecutive playoff games, his 4 and 0 record in the playoffs that has brought SF to the SB, and say he doesn't seem like he could be a top 15 QB all time. Compare Brocks what 24 regular season games and 4 playoff games (started and finished) to the first 24 of your top 15. He crushes everyone over that span. Peyton Manning is in most people's top 5, he threw over 20 picks his rookie season. How can Brock Purdy's ceiling be lower than former players who have not out performed him at this stage in their careers? Everyone but Brady.

@@williamosceola5056 That is a statement that can be applied to any comment, it fails to point out any conflict with fact or reason. Compare Peyton's first 24 games to Purdy's, and Purdy has out performed him. It's reasonable to believe that Purdy's ceiling could exceed Peyton Manning. That's what that means. If a sprinter was faster than Usain Bolt over his first 20 races, it doesn't mean he will be faster than Bolt, but it definitely shows the potential is there.
@jasperegan362510 ай бұрын
@@orionsimerl6539at the same time, you could correctly point out that almost none of the top 15 qbs of all time walked into a team built like Purdy has. Most of those guys went to teams that were drafting high because before they got there the teams were just plain bad, and it took a few seasons to build around those guys and give them the help they need because it's still a team sport. You can't blame Purdy for walking into a fantastic situation, but you can realize that it is a fact and also realize that we won't really know how good Purdy is until he isn't completely surrounded by some of the best players in the league at their positions.
@orionsimerl653910 ай бұрын
@@jasperegan3625 Tom.Brady also walked into a great situation, so did Maholmes, so did Peyton, Favre, Steve Young, Rodgers started his first year with a team that Favre took to the NFC Championship that lost in OT the year before. A great situation doesn't change the fact that Purdy has had historical individual performances. A mediocre QB does not do the things Purdy has done regardless of the talent he has around him. Phillip Rivers had Ladanian Tomilson, much better that CMC, Gates was a better receiving TE than Little, Vincent Jackson is better Ayuk, and also had Darren Sproles. It doesn't matter, because the argument is it is reasonable to believe that Purdy's ceiling is higher than those who he has out performed to this point in their careers. It makes sense that because he's been better to this point that he could continue to be better.
@triodesrbetter10 ай бұрын
Nick's probably right. If GM's started drafting QB's from the pool of the current league, Purdy would probably go 14-18, even with what we know today. Dak would go higher. Even Goff might. Drew Brees might be the same height (6-0 to 6-1) but he's a much better measurable athlete. Wingspan, arm length, etc... Like, his vertical is 32" compared to Purdy 27". Hand size 10.25 to 9.25. He can't grip a wet ball like most others. He's probably the most disadvantaged/handicapped starter, attribute wise. Which makes me appreciate his success even more. But GM's will do what GM's do, start with a higher floor/higher ceiling, type player.
