There is difference between acting slow due to bureaucratic inefficiencies, and willful ignorance at the policy level not to take evidence based scientific data seriously. Instead, Modi is driven by purely extreme political ideologies, thereby tipping the country's well being against covid waves over the threshhold to crises mode. This crises well beyond the traditional red-tapes issues that cripple indian bureaucratic machinery daily. This is about willful negligence by the central government, even against repeated warnings by their own scientists 6 weeks ahead of total breakdown of infection rates, for political opportunism. Instead he encouraged political and religious gatherings, and it came back to bite in their fat arses, while untold suffering and deaths are being borne by the citizens. So, stop diluting the willful failures of the central government by attributing blame to the easy targets like the inefficiencies of the indian bureaucracy. The overwhelming blame for this crisis lies with the modi government. All independent domestic and international think tanks have have to the same damning conclusion.

This is the reality … gov was slow in asking for medicines as though the Modena,J&J of the world will leave their own countrymen even though we asked for vaccines. The slightest hint that they are close to vaccine would have been known to the UK and USA Gov and not Indian gov as they are international firms. I’m glad we have 2 vaccine providers- Covaxin and Covishield who can produce locally and not wait for vaccines from overseas. Karan asked some tricky questions, while refusing to accept the blame game politics, while Madam Moitra has been stoic with her opinions. It's up to the people to take what they want from this interview. Some might say Karan has been defending BJP, some might say TMC was being unrealistic. I do agree that the government has failed in their management, handling of the issue and fear of being held in bad light. One thing is clear that Covid 19 will be used as an electoral politics in future.

Even during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections the percentage of votes polled by Mr Modi and his party (excluding the Allies) was less than 35%. Your source for the claim that 60% of India still loves Modi is not known to me. But I have seen what happened in the West Bengal Assembly elections where huge crowds attended the Prime Minister's election rallies but the BJP ended with less than 100 seats despite their vaunting that they would form the next Government in Bengal, despite all the party bigwigs campaigning in the State extensively, despite the Election Commission doing their best to play to the BJP's tune and despite Modi himself addressing as many as 21 election rallies in the State. It is strange when an interviewer, especially of Mr. Thapar's stature becomes argumentative and interruptive. He is the interviewer and not a debater. He can refute points politely but not keep harping upon the same. Unsure as to why he insisted that Modi was pressurized by state CM's (and seems to imply only Mamata) when in every other decision, the Sates are and can be overruled (especially opposition states). Ms. Moitra deserves great credit for handling the repeated harassing questions in the manner she did. I may not subscribe to all her logic, but she handled the interviewer superbly. She deserves to move up to a much greater leadership role!

Karan Thapar has an excellent point here. You and Mahua Moitra are simply feeling frustrated Karan did not indulge in pure Modi bashing but also bashed Mamta. All the CMs and especially the PM should have woken up in mid to late 2020 to and put out global tenders. At that time the central government wasted time harping on atmanirbhar bharat, with no thought for a timeline. CMs were basically sleeping, which could of course be partly because vaccine procurement was not state governments' responsibility anyway- still not even making forceful suggestion at the appropriate time is pure devil may care attitude.

Did Karan throw a googly with this interview? Either ways, this is how interviews need to be done. Mahua Moitra for a change seemed to be defensive, and Karan seemed to go full throttle despite the natural leanings. If only anyone from BJP had the guts to get under fire and answer the questions.
