There's these little things that make their relationship real. Zuko is not afraid or ashamed if Mai touches his face and scar, he leans into it, means he truly trusts her. And Mai who we in the beginning saw as an apathetic, cold girl showed more and more emotions when around Zuko. And if she doesn't talk, she stays at his side, offering the support of "I'm here if you need me" And of course the iconic moment that shows that Love is stronger than hate and fear

the fact that mai is a cold, apathetic and extremely introverted person, but when around Zuko she changes entirely, she’s comfortable enough to express her world and emotions to him, she wants to help him improve and make him feel better. even though he was banished and seen as a disappointment, even though he practically “dumped” her, leaving her with no explanation, she waited for him, she fought for him, she sacrificed and “betrayed” her best friend and nation only to save him. she truly loves him, and that’s exactly the type of love that he needs.

Azula betrayed her and ty lee from the start. She only wanted to controll them to get what she wants and never cared about how they felt, they just put up with it and when she stands up against herself its suddenly betrayal. its called consequenses to my actions and karma. why should azula not be held accountable? A real friend dosent boil their man, or theri own brother. A real friend dosent put fire on their nets during performance itching for them to fall trough and get hurt. Dont EVER judge a person for leaving a toxic friend.

Zuko suffered from the same kind of trauma with his father, if not even worse, and he still decided to change his path for the better. Azula was born with evilness, that’s clear and simple.

I love how during "The Boiling Rock" Mai is blinded by love and can't really understand why Zuko had to leave. Granted he could have brought her with him but that would put her at risk. In the end it's her love for Zuko leads her to betray Azula alongside Ty Lee.

I don't think she "ships" it, I think she only sees it as a way to control them both. If anything, she is annoyed and later hates their relationship when she cannot control them. She literally humilates them both when she first found out about Mai's crush and puts Mai in danger for it by shooting fire at her.

People forget that in the boiling rock episode, Mai saved Zuko and everyone else's lives, despite the fact that Zuko broke up with her to travel with Aang. She even betrayed Azula because she said she truly loves Zuko. Mai loved him despite his title, and even after he became an outkast.

I wished we could get to see how Zuko's banishment affected Mai and her views. It must have been a big trauma for her as well, especially being stuck with Azula afterwards (Ty Lee apparently ran off soon after as well). She probably could not also talk about it with anyone due to the reputation of her family, since any ties with banished prince would be harmful for her family.

The other couples in the show are nice. I like Kataang and Sukka. But my favorite is Maiko. I've never thought much of this, but I think part of the reason why Mai and Zuko are my favorite ATLA couple has to do with them knowing each other since little and them coming from the same Nation. I find tgat connection quite powerful. I hope movie coming next year Avatar Studios is working on has some Maiko moments.

Like y’all, Zuko actor just had insane chemistry with everyone. Katara and Zuko I don’t even know what to make of that. They never seem interested in each other. It’s like when you’re in middle school and people think y’all have crushes going on just cause you converse with the opposite gender. Unless I’m really forgetting something, there was never anything that made it as if they felt any attraction or feelings for each other Zuko and Jin, she was very sweet obviously but the whole point of that was to show Zuko having a nice time and not really knowing how to deal with that. At least that’s how I interpreted the 2 minutes they had together She seemed perfectly lovely and I’m sure she had a happily ever after with some other dude.
