This is not about being tribalistic but this is not recent but has always being a thing amongst Igbo women. I remember vividly growing up as a child in Lagos and we would always hear the the screams from our neighbors house who are Igbos due to the severe punishment meted out to their maid. It's high time this aggressiveness towards children stopped and carry heavy jail time.

What’s going on in Nigeria why the wickedness for young maids. I’m a grandma of 14 and this hurts me so badly. I’m crying I’m not lying cause when I was young and we came to Nigeria mum rose to stardom quickly. She treated her workers better than us and we respected all the house help more. She gave them breaks and things she did for them made me have great value for life and treated people with great respect. This is sad, even when I visit home as come to Nigeria I see this and I tell them they are poor hence they treat people the way they do. Please get justice for that child. No no no no 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

It's an igbo issue especially Imo State. Am handling a similar case for my sister whom is married to someone from Imo State. For four months plus she can't speak to her child now we are trying to track them down with police.

It does happening in many homes, housemaids can not watch television, sit in the sitting room, eat yam flour, pounded yam, noodles, fried plantain, the mistress knows their children don't like cooked beans, they will cook it much and the house help will be the one to be eating it as long as she can finish the beans no other food, they have forgotten GOD mention house helps in the Bible, In heaven no special house, chair for rich people and no back sit for house helps or poor people, you will be sent to where you belong to reap what you did on earth, good or bad,. Heaven or hell

I think that if such cases is prevalent in certain places then it matters. Research should be conducted and people in such regions be re oriented and educated to prevent future occurrence. And that is not tribalism. Its stating facts. Sometimes some of this violence are rooted in culture. Maybe people in such regions are brought up to feel they are better than everyone else or to treat people like trash as long as they are feeding them.

You're being tribal in your statement.. Why would you say they're brought up to feel they're superior, has anyone in that region said that to you before or you're just displaying your tribalism??.. Also, feeling superior to someone you're caring for is natural unless you have the fear of God in you to remain humble and the feeling of pride as no tribe on it. Even if you're feeding your elder ones, you'll require some respect from them at some points so stop making it tribal Having maid has been for ages if you read your Bible very well, I don't support maltreatment of maids but the government really need to stand firm on protection of human life, they're loose in that regard that's why there're ritualists everywhere, kidnapping, organ harvesting and other atrocities targeted towards humanity. Nigeria politics has a whole lot to say about it.. The government should ensure the family of the bereaved get justice

The closest experience I've had came from the wife of a close relative from Akwa-Ibom but I can't generalize all Akwa-Ibom women are hostile to their maid. The problem is that people look down on others just because of the jobs they do. They treat them like slaves. And believe it's they right to do them anyhow. I bet they were't even paying her. This is an awful thing to have happened. Someone needs to go to jail. Justice must be served.
