Maiden Voyage with "Vestri" - PT 7 The Final Leg - Lund to Campbell River, British Columbia

We completed the maiden voyage with our new CHB 34-foot trawler named "Vestri" We left Lund around noon and docked at Discovery Harbour Marina around 4pm after checking out the Mitlenatch Island Nature Reserve for an hour or so.

A great trip, Ray and Ann. Brings back a lot of memories of sailing in those waters with the RCN. For steady shots, you'll have to look into a gimbal system so that the camera stays in one position when the boat is rocking. Looking forward to the updates and improvements you will be making. Hello Anne and Ray! I must say, this is probably the most impressive series of videos you guys have made to date!! I was smiling right along with the both of you! I was so relaxed watching this! Ray, did you have to make any changes to your Starlink plan to use it on Vestri? Thanks for the great videos!

I switched from the residential package to the roam package, an extra 30 CAD a month. I think it should work anywhere there is a blue hexagon on the map. www.starlink.com/map?source=roam Has worked well so far. Plug it in and in a few minutes it connects. I don't use it while in motion, I believe you have to pay more for that feature. Seems to keep a pretty good connection even with the boat swinging on anchor and with the mast and rigging blocking some of the sky.

Several years ago my wife won 4 days at Sonora Resort on Quadra island. We had a great time there. At the time it was owned by the Louie's of London Drugs. I don't know if they still do.

We will rent a spot in a dry land boat storage yard. They have a sling lift to get it out of the water and move it to the storage area. The boat came with a full winter cover.

Ray as a newbie can you tell me roughly how much fuel a trawler like your uses .

Sure. :) Last summer we averaged about 1.5 - 2 gallons per hour over 3 months of use. Usually cruised at around 6-7 knots 1800 RPM It has a 1976 120hp Ford Lehman six cylinder diesel engine. It's much the same that was found in farm tractors but has been marinized for use in a boat.
