I have to agree that Judas Priest has made the heavy metal album of the year with "Invincible Shield." I know that "Nostredamus" gets a lot of criticism, but Halford's voice on that release was just amazing. It was like a heavy metal Pink Floyd concept that most Priest fans did not quite accept. I think Maiden's "Senjutsu" is mellow, but the playing is still first rate.

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 The "Nostradamus" project was ambitious in scope, but misunderstood by a lot of Priest fans. Personally, I was blown away, especially with Rob Halford's vocals. He even sang a little in Italian. The guitar work is superb with an album concept of mellow passages through out, a kind of a strange return of the "Sad Wings of Destiny" era. I can understand why it would be ranked last in their catalog, but it is still great to me. I have always believed that Maiden and Priest compete with each other, creatively.

Good show Darcy, a fav topic for me. I have been a fan of Judas Priest since 1980 when I was 14 and I heard Living After Midnight and then went out and bought British Steel and Stained Class and they have been in my top two bands ever since. I discovered Iron Maiden with Number of the Beast in 1982 and they have been my other favourite band for the past 4 decades. Brave New World is probably Iron Maiden's best album outside of the classic 1980s records and the last few Judas priest albums have been their best since Painkiller. Having said all that, it leads me to conclude that Judas Priest have had the better run of records over the past 25 Years although I think Brave New World is probably the best of either bands records since 2000.
@Gregbaltzer10 ай бұрын
i read in an interview with K.K. years ago part of his reason for "retiring" from Priest was the frustration he felt over the reception of Nostradomus. He felt in this age people don't sit with albums the way they did when he was growing up. He felt that now music is so easily obtainable that people listen to albums once or twice and then they're on to the next thing. He felt Nostradomus was a great album that wasn't given a chance because of current listening habits. He became very disillusioned by this. I'm guilty of this. There's always albums coming out all the time from bands I like that I get them then shelf them. Part of me is happy that a lot of bands I love have retired, or are near the end of their careers, because it's less albums I need to get.

I would have to go with maiden love both bands but always preferred maiden. Plus I think maidens albums since 2000 are mostly strong, love brave New world, dance of death has a few great songs but production is very muddy, amolad is a great album, book of souls not my favorite a lot of filler, love sinjitsu I think it's a great atmospheric album kind of like X factor which I always liked. Final frontier I don't like. I would definitely prefer redeemer of souls over Final frontier. And maybe firepower over book of souls so probably 4-2 to maiden.

For me Maiden was done after Powerslave and Priest's problem is they think they're a speed metal band. Halford needs to grow up . Anyways that's my take.

Angel of... by Priest and Nostradamus-are REAL MASTERPIECES and can't be compared to any of Maiden's albums (IMO) JP-is the Big Pa and Iron Maiden-are just kiddy dwarves as compared to Priest!☝

None of the Maiden albums from this period really impressed me all that much. I heard each of them when they came out and pretty much forgot about them, except for Wicker Man, which I still really like. I need to go back and listen to all of them again. As for Priest, I actually liked Nostradamus quite a bit, but they could have left off about half of it and it would have been much better. Firepower blew me away when I heard it, but for me, Invincible Shield is easily the best thing they've done since the 80s. Angel of Retribution and Demolition each have some good stuff, but not their best. I didn't care for Redeemer of Souls, but I think the production there was the problem. The whole album just sounds muted to me. It seems they just sucked the heaviness right out of all the songs on that one.

Iron Maiden writes long droning, boring songs, they were a different beast in the 80’s. Judas Priest writes metal songs and they are a better band. They got shorter songs. And proudly wave the metal flag. I prefer Judas Priest concerts over Iron Maiden concerts too.

It’s hard to beat 80’s Iron Maiden, a very strong 7 album run! I hope I see some Judas Priest Canadian dates announced soon, I’m going it’s just a matter of when lol. Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers William

Priest wins this easy. They're still a metal band that is enjoyable to listen to. Iron Maiden has sucked since the 90's. The last few Iron Maiden albums are incredibly boring, old man rock.

Howdy Darcy! Iron Maiden for me isn't a band I like, except The Number of The Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslaves, and Seventh Son of... perhaps Fear of the Dark and Killers with Diano😉 As to the rest-I don't like them. They are way too boring and dragged out. None of their albums just can be compared to even Turbo of JP. or even to Jugulator(IMO) . I don't quite like Steve Harris as a bass player either-tremendously boring to my view. I would't even take him on in my university times' band.🤣🤣 🤣But I would've dreamed of having Billy Cox or Noel Redding (from Jimi Hendrix) or Roger Glover or Peter Baltes or Gary Thain in my band😉 If I wanna listen to smth. more complicated I' d go NOT for " The Iron Maiden suites" but for Dream Theater or Symphony X!👍 But i gotta tell ya that I ADORE all of the Dickinson albums except for "Skunworks" . The Mandrake Project by Dickinson in 2024 and Deep Purple along with latest Priest and Accept-are ABSOLUTE winners of 2024☝

I think maiden made better albums than priest at the beginning of the 2000s but priest really caught up once Faulkner entered the band and the last few albums have blown away maidens last few… and yes, I agree redeemer is a good album but is held back by bad production… I really wish they brought Sneap onboard with the production on this album because there are some great songs on it.

If Andy Sneap remixed and remastered Redeemer Of Souls I wouldn’t complain! It’s a good album. It just needs some balls lol. Thanks as always 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy

Judas Priest hit the finish line before Iron Maiden got past the starting gate on this one. Maiden are a little too prog for my tastes nowadays. I know many die-hard Maidenites take exception to this, but since I've been a fan since 1981, I've witnessed the decline first hand. JP has had many winners in their latter career. IM, not so much.

Priest for the win! I haven't enjoyed any new Maiden since 2006's A Matter Of Life And Death. They literally have gotten more and more boring with every new album since 1992. Steve Harris jumped the shark with all these long ass boring albums with long ass monotonous plodding songs. They should return to their 80s formula. The last two Priest CDs have been phenomenal. Theyre already classics! Angel Of Retribution was awesome. I have to give Nostrodomus more of a listen. Its an album that requires patience no doubt. Redeemer Of Souls suffered from crappy production and just sounds lackluster overall. Jugulator is badass. Probably the most underrated album in their discography. Demolition maybe has a few good songs, but was a mistep which ended the Ripper era. Thats my two sense!

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I think so; however, I've already put Invincible Shield over Killing Machine, Sin After Sin and British Steel. It may take some time for the dust to settle. Most fans take a little while to calm down. For me, the timeline matters. I'll probably always be biased towards '74 to '84 plus Painkiller Judas Priest era.
