Oh, wow, here comes the boom!! I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone, Martyn. I noticed the strap immediately, hoping, maybe off camera. I'd have to get a fuselage just to show it what for, as long as the motor/esc's are good. The aileron separation, I REALLY hope not. I was just about to pull one out of the box and build it (it's been waiting awhile). My condolences to you. AirHammer out!!

Well that disclaimer was hilarious! On the crash - I've seen foam control surfaces come off in a crash, but it could have come lose in flight. I've seen that as well, but only with a well used airplane...not a new one. I would say that is likely more than a battery shift only because the battery would have gone forward. Nose heavy planes...even severely nose heavy planes will fly. They will fly bad, but they will fly. I think if the battery was it you'd have landed. Hate it crashed my friend. That sucks. Stay well buddy...

Hi Adam - I found the disclaimer to be very funny indeed , so thought now is the chance to use it - LOL, Happy you liked it - as for the crash - well My fault - battery not strapped it, I think it had moved a little during the take off run and the A10 was a little sluggish - I was switching from low to high rates on a turn and I almost always lose Hight when I turn - I think this allowed the battery to slip to the nose - and I had no control at all - Aileron was also defiantly ripped of due to the Impact- still none of it matters now - the Lesson here for me is Strap in every time - even when checking CG, A10 scraped for parts, might get a Multiplex Twin Star and use the A10 power system for it... EDF Twin Star - until then I will crack open another box and Assemble what lies within - Cheers Adam - Stay well - Martyn

Disaster Martyn! I'll remember this when I finally get my Xfly A10! I would echo Gina - I've had Ailerons/flaps detach from the force of a nose dive, so that would leave......the battery? Better luck with your next maiden!

It is a 101 mistake - not securing the battery - still I heard it said that every cloud has a silver lining - just got to find it in this - Good luck with the maiden of your Xfly A10 - what I will say is the short time it was flying it was OK.... Stay well Martyn

OUCH!!! hard telling Martyn i think you might be right on the combo as the cause though the battery shifted and overstressed the hinge! although frankly i'm amazed those hinges hold up as well as they do being just foam!! you might want to add a collection tote to your field kit though! and maybe a cooler to mix saltwater in when you kill a battery and need to haul it home! that's the first time i've seen the insides of a lipo i always thought they were cylinder shaped and in a row because of how the ends are rounded not slab shaped and stacked!!

Hi Keith - See even my channel can be educational LOL....😁😁🤣🤣🤣🤣, Not how I would like you to have seen the insides of A LIPO but what can I say ..LOL.... I ended up tipping everything out of my little metal case tool Kit and putting the Lipo in that to get it home , truth be told Keith I hope I don't have the need for a cooler and salt water for a few more years to come...... A10 scrapped for parts... Something new to be unboxed now......Stay well Keith - Martyn

Sad to see this happen to your A-10 Martyn, sorry. I also think the battery strap mistake is the most likely cause here. I definitely don’t think your left aileron detached prior to ground impact, just wouldn’t happen in flight unless it was heavily damaged and you’d have seen that damage during its build prior, but nose in to the ground it can easily happen. Did it myself just 3 days ago with my E-Flite 850mm Pitts, both top wing ailerons completely ripped clean off, top wing off too and rest of the plane generally obliterated, will have to get a new one, good plane, pilot error throwing it around in 12-15mph winds. I usually watch your videos on my iPad but threw this one up on my 55inch screen. Most likely the battery has shifted forward on the bumpy take off, you say yourself, “she only just got up” on the audio. Had the same problem with the E-Flite 70mm Viper which I replaced the stock hard nose gear on for a Castle RC sprung ‘upgrade’. Like you say, losses angle of attack on the main wing with all the nose bobbing when flying off grass. What I saw much clearer on the big screen was a very high bank angle on that fateful 2nd turn, she drops like a stone almost immediately (just before you annotated the footage with the white ring). I think with the forward battery plus high bank angle she dropped out on herself, classic RC tip stall. Can you remember what kind of throttle position you had at that turn? Maybe she would’ve survived that turn at 100% throttle, but likely overly forward battery position, high bank angle into turn, possible lack of throttle in the turn and she was on a hiding to nothing. They say a combination of 3 things going wrong in real life aviation situations results in a crash. You also mentioned she felt sluggish back at the bench, these videos are our version of the black box. Kinda pilot error but not really, ground crew f*@$ed you..!! You’ll never forget a battery strap again that’s for sure. Hope you get another one in the future and make it work, my plan with this model is to hand toss/belly land it.

Hi Jon - I agree I think that I was the cause of that one - 4s Lipo on the Rampage . CG on the nose ....LOL...😁🤣🤣🤣, Jon Your flying skills are on a different "plane" to mine (no pun intended) - but I am Flying Skills 101 when competed to yours ,😀 I am not sure I could have saved an aircraft with a missing Aileron - Well done , Hope you get the Fantasista repaired soon , I know how much you like that one.... Oh no mate! Well as we all know crashing is inevitable, but sucks major donkey...... lol. Sorry about the loss, I'm sure there will come another. I want to purchase Xflys A10, but I have 2 UMX A10s one is in the box still and want to sale it, if I do then I'll pick this one up. Can't wait. I wish I could help your crash analysis, but for good measure I'll say possi lt a mix of both theories. I also crashed today 🙃 aileron servo stopped working. 😡 outcome is repairable but annoying

Sorry about your crash - as you say in your comment it is inevitable at some time , but it feels just a bit worse when you know it was all your own fault - as I am sure it was all down to that Battery not being strapped in - - Oh well pleased to hear that you can repair your - for what it is worth the short time I was flying the A10 it seemed good ...... Stay well

Hi Martyn, sorry about the loss of that plane. It's a nice model. I was wondering if the long roll out in the grass might have caused the battery movement. The plane would be bouncing a bit over the "bumpy" grass, and the springy front wheel might have increased the front bounce. The up and down bouncing could have jostled and lifted the battery above the 1cm lip you discussed...then the battery was free to slide forward. Just a thought.
@FlankerTanker
@FlankerTanker 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave- Could well be, I do see your point (its a good one) - I am leaning more towards the Battery shift Idea rather than a damaged Hinge , as the cause - its a mute point anyway now , Scrapped the A10 for parts, Lesson learnt the hard way - time to break something else out of a box and Assemble... Cheers Dave

Aww mate so soz to see this I’ve not maidend mine yet but I’ll definitely check battery is strapped in I recon that was your problem but we have all done that and I recon the hinge gave way with force of impact, I put hinge tape on my jets lately but was so sad to see this but I think it’s fixable with some of my planes I put carbon fibre strips in to give extra strength I did it with my red arrow and it did help with my second mishap I had the other week I flew it into a bush at full throttle and just ended up with cosmetic injuries lol , Gary 🇬🇧
@FlankerTanker
@FlankerTanker 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gazza - Well I guess SH*T happens - I tend to agree with what most are saying here - no doubt that the Battery not being strapped it means that it shifted forwards - silly mistake to make , I have changed my CG checking procedure now and even if I am just checking the CG the Battery will be strapped in - Lesson learnt the hard way - I left it a day and took a good look at the A10 - I decided to scrap it , removed useable parts and the rest goes into the Bin.. My E-Flite F15 has carbon strips to reinforce the nose... Its good to hear that the Red Arrow is still flying - Stay well See you soon - Martyn

Hi martyn As an aircraft engineer AND A CRASH INVESTIGATOR FOR THE RAF..... I CAN HONESTLY SAY WITHOUT FEAR OF CONTRADICTION THE A10 IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION IS TOTALLY AND UTTERLY FORKED.......... right now for my 2 penyth worth.... DONT think it was the lipo front heavy SLUGGISH.. BUT CONTROLLABLE unlike tail heavy I think it's 1 of 2...... AILERON OR ENGINE FAILURE ON ONE OF THE Edfs. As for the broken Elevator couldn't cope with the force to correct the flight and caused hinge failure.... On a side note that lipo WHAT A BRILLIANT PAPER WEIGHT THAT'S GANA MAKE. If you remember my zohd ailerons were forked only preflight inspection stopped a bin liner being used the same as your HUSKY Elevator hinge the other day Or it just might have been that FRIDAY AFTERNOON THING...... Brilliant vid even with the promise of racoons eating people's head off..the hint of POSTMAN PAT giving a FIRST CLASS DELIVERY . After thought Try the aileron servo and both edfs.. You never know🤔🤔 BE LUCKY 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 Brian

I see Brian - are you trying to tell me - that without any Beating around the bush, and getting right to the matter in hand, without any unnecessary delay, that my A10 is Broken with a Capital "F".... !!!! . because if that is what you are saying - I totally and utterly agree......🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 - Problem is that if one of the EDF units proves to be Dead it could be CRASH Damage and not failure in flight - Regarding the LIPO now that it has been made Inert - I might look to see if I can get it into an acrylic block - and use it as you say a Paper weight.. oh and S*D the racoon and upright Postmen, its the farmers mountain of Bl**dy rotten Onions that will get you.......!!!!! but that's another story altogether.... My opinion is that in like most crashes it was a myriad of things that contributed to the demise. Pretty good guess the aileron hinge was faulty from manufacturer, like the old story goes never buy a car that was built on a Monday or Friday. Sorry for your loss my friend 😢. What did you salvage?

Gutted for you, Martyn. And I do believe that it's even beyond the scope of H*t gLu* in terms of resurrection. Best scrapped and then move on. Personally, I've had ailerons get ripped off in a bad nose-in... I think it's a result of the plane not going in truly vertical, but at a slight angle. The impact shockwave energy resonates through the airframe out to the extremities, where a whiplash action would take place. Outside of that, I'd blame Brian...
