So glad you decided on this plant for a tutorial. It’s a finicky one. Sometimes they just suddenly die. They do come back almost always if you cut them back to the very base once they appear dead. It’s amazing that way. Nice job. You remain fun to watch, with a great personality. I’m glad to see your videos each time.

I bought this plant not knowing that it was a little hard to keep alive. It started to die on me, so I did some reasearch. My mistakes were that I had it in direct sunlight near my usually open window which was to cold for it and also was watering it like it was a normal house plant. I have since trimmed the dead fronds, added rocks and water undearneath its pot, moved her to another corner of the room, and I also have a humidifier going in the room at all times. I have noticed they are 15 new fronds coming up in the soil now 😊

Hey there Mack-Attack great stuff as always. I know it is so difficult to keep our hands to ourselves at the best of times. Things tend to dry out in my house with the furnace running during the winter. At times I have used a humidifier in my plant room to give my plants a boost of moisture. Yeah, this virus has given me a chance to catch up on those "things" that can wait until later. So I guess it is "later" now. So off to a little "Spring Cleaning!!" Take 'er easy

This video is helpful !! Question, do you know why my maidenhair frond turning black ? Is that a good or bad sign ? I been searching for answers on the internet and it’s nowhere to be found.

That’s most likely because of lack of humidity! You can try putting it on a pebble tray with some water to see if that helps 😊

Thank you for this video! I just have one question. When you cut the ferns, do they actually grow back? I'm really scared of trimming my plant because it's really small, half of my plant is alive and the other half is dead. Do I have hope for new ferns to grow back if I cut the dead ones?

Yes there is hope if you cut back the dead ones! Generally their new branches sprout from their root ball at the base of the plant so cutting dead branches won't effect those at all - in fact it may encourage them to grow faster! Let me know if you have more questions 😊

It's generally recommended to cut off leaves of any plant that are not doing well, that way the plant doesn't waste energy on the dying leaves and will have a better chance at new growths.

Hi!! So all plants are very tricky to maintain without drainage. It CAN survive but you really have to be careful when watering as it can easily get root rot! So give it a little less water than you normally would and keep a close eye on the soil 👀

I have a ton of questions because I am determined to keep this plant alive. So, when I received it, not long after being in my apartment, all the foliage dried out. I cut it all off and now I am awaiting a revival, but I am going to order another in case. I had a humidifier going near the fern for at least eight hours a day. It was a cool mist, but the temp inside was 75. I did mist it, but I could not do anything. Do you recommend a humidifier cause I am thinking of getting a bigger one. It was next to my orchids, prayer plants, and lucky bamboo, which were also receiving the benefit of the humidifier. I can't image it was over-watered because the whole thing shriveled up. I plan to do the humidity tray with pebbles you mentioned too. But I also have a humidity tray with my orchids on it. This is one of those long black plastic ones you might see in nurseries that you keep water in it. What about setting the maidenhair fern on a humidity tray like that instead of pebbles, or should I put pebbles in it too? I have my lucky bamboo in pebbles and water, but I don't have pebbles in it. Help! Oh one other thing. The table I had this on, there was a grow light near, but it was LED and not too hot. Was that bad? Is it the heat from the sun that hurts it or just too much light? It was not directly under the light, but the light was in it's view. One other thing, I saw an article recommending mixing humas with organic soil. Would that be good? Should I include per lite, or leave that out?

Hello! This plant tends to create MANY questions for everyone 😂 that's just how she is. But yes I think a humidifier would be very beneficial for this plant! The more humidity the better. She also does not like to be too hot so keeping her around the mid-70's is the golden zone. You can definitely use that black tray you spoke of, just make sure the plant is not sitting in water! That will cause it to rot and shrivel up - so sitting the plant on a big tray with pebbles and filling it with just enough water that it's not actually touching the plant pot is ideal! The LED light might have been too intense for the plant, I've never used LED lights myself but perhaps you have to introduce them slowly to this type of light? I could see her overreacting to that 😬 The organic soil should be great for the maiden hair ! I have not tried Humus soil myself but it should hold onto a little more moisture when mixed in, so worth a try since the maidenhair likes to maintain a humid environment! Humus also tends to break up the soil a little bit too so not sure if you NEED perlite but you can add a little bit to be on the safe side. If you try that let me know how it does!
