5:58 it's pretty funny she feels like Zera to you, since Maiev originally in Warcraft 3 has basically the same ability kit as Zera in hots (AoE around self, blink, and a delayed nuke) and devs had to reshape her somewhat for the game

My guess is that the high win percentage is connected to the low play rate. The only people who play her are the ones who are actually good at her, and no one is used to playing against her.

@@Malthael22 most characters or rather builds that rely on your team are hard. Because you can't control your team and if they straight up don't help you (like stacking with Azmo, follow up dmg after a KTZ combo etc) you're basically useless and most of the times are getting the blame.

Even casters need good protection to be effective like your KTZ example. I like playing Maiev, but with no support or tank in a match, it's a nightmare to play her.

I kinda have the condition that I like some of the hardest heroes the most and I'm normally not a moba guy so I still after years struggle to follow what's happening. I was a long time WoW player in PvP especially battle grounds and world PvP with many enemies and in the best case the same amount of allies but actually we where outnumbered most of the time so I have a strategic but offensive playstyle and offensive doesn't fit well in HotS so I find myself often alone and out of position when fighting starts but at least I'm good at it but my team never follows up with stuns or even damage or whatever they are occupied with running.

Some tips for maev: 1. Your engage is way scarier when you just walk at them and then use your w to pull and your e to make sure it happens. You walk towards them, w while throwing e backwards and teleport to yoink them all back, situations may vary but this is the metaphorical “kerrigan combo” at its most basic level for maev. I only will use my e to get closer in a chase situation to make a checkmate move on the enemy 2. Maev is a consistent damage and cc character, not a burst damage. As much as her kit may seem like zeratul’s on paper, the way they approach engages is vastly different. Zeratul is get in, get kill, get out. Maev instead is pull enemy together in a bad spot, spam q, profit. Her q is the biggest source of damage and always having how to line that up conciously in your mind is key to the success in any game with maev. 3. Use her trait reactively. Make sure to hold onto it until you see an ability used that you really need to not get hit by. (i.e. pyroblast) the window is short but long enough for pretty much anything a spellcaster like kael’thas can throw at you. Just like tracer if you can keep track of that important cooldown and use it accordingly, you will be extremely hard to pin down and kill. An edit here: it can go both ways here as pally does state, as you don’t necessarily want to always hold it, the main thing to evaluate is what you need to use it for and when it is better to just kill the enemy team faster Mostly things I noticed from today’s video, I hope these help! Maev is one of my favorites and she has a very nice flow.

38-7-1 now following your builds. This feels like the textbook definition of a not for quick match hero. She absolutely needs a coordinated team in order to be good. It's why I remember her being a consistently strong hero in high ends of storm league and consistently awful in QM. Since I don't have viewers to help me on this I did what I could and gave myself some extra games. I do like this better than the try hard build I was doing before as it is easier to understand. I want to mention one practice game I had though because it go to levels 29 vs 28 with 57 to 35 deaths in our favor vs a butcher with no tank or healer and at the end of the match the butcher had still not completed his quest

This was a wild one to watch! I always love seeing those big comebacks. Those staggered enemy deaths into the Boss, Objective, and Merc Camps turned what looked like a total loss into a sweet, sweet victory. Great content as always Pally.

Maiev is my favorite assasin-class character, loved her with all her flaws, the plays you can set up with the cage is great, her AA's can hurt a lot and with a lot of practice fan of spam cen demolish clumped up team comps.

Maiev was actually a little overpowered when came out. I remember seeing in the HGC that year (last one actually) that everyone was permabanning her cause she was way too strong, funny cause now that those pro teams are gone maiev has only been buffed. In any case pally you did amazing, just gonna point out some tips that helped me with her in case they can help you or anyone reading: maiev is like a KT + illidan for the DMG since you get resets on your Q if you hit more than 2 or more heroes and that can escalate to a ton of DMG super fast but you gotta stay in range. For the W is better to play it like a garrosh, you want to stay mounted and get close to apply it and then you E out, otherwise some people are gonna try to stay in range (not necessarily bad cause makes easier to hit Q if they can't disengage), finally the build you were running has anti-sinergy at levels 1 and 16, if you run E build is better to get the lower CD on 1 so you can actually get in with E and have a chance for a second cast almost instantly, and the Q at 16 is better cause you already committed to %dmg at 4. All talents on maiev are good but builds are a little weird and usually it's best to experiment a little, mixing everything now and then until you find what goes better here and there

I was really surprised that Pally didn't talk about her release. She was completely busted when she came out. An absolute unrelenting murder monster. A melee assassin with huge damage, more CC than some tanks, a good engage/escape and baseline passive 15 armor with an on demand invuln on a short CD. Angels would weep when she got a Q reset. I remember some pro player or streamer even playing her without any talents and still winning their games.

Love Pallys videos. The last few felt pretty mailed in (I know about the recent tragedy in Pallys extended family), but I think the substance of his helpful tips and commentary is higher when he's put more than a few practice games on the character. Maiev video was great due to 11 practice games. I do also know there's a content creator KZbin bonus in December which he has mentioned, but still love it when he puts some re practice into someone before providing an overview. Pally, love the vids but you're doing the combo backwards my man. Try fighting into the enemy group, then W umbral cord them all and E the hell out of there. They will ALL be pulled and without mitigation there's no way for them to outrun it. I get the explosion damage of E going in, that's fun, but trust me try it the other way and you'll be doing way more damage when they all get yanked back towards you. TLDR: Don't E in, W the group and E OUT.

Yeah, the biggest part of getting good with Maiev is learning to consistently hit multiple heroes with her Q to get those resets. She can put a lot of pressure on clumped up teams when that happens.

one thing i found made it a lot easier to stack Maiev's level 1 quest was to AA a minion next to enemy heroes after activating W, rather than trying to get 2 heroes grouped together

Maiev on my team: Gets out ranged and messed up by everything and everyone. Maieve on enemy team: Unkillable CC machine. Capable of locking down and escaping an entire enemy team, without going below 50% health.

I recommend getting Blade Dance at lvl 4 with the W build. The bonus dmg from Blade Dance gives you an extra stack for the lvl 16 talent "Cruel Chain".

I don't really have anyone else to tell because I don't really play Blizzard games anymore because of this, but I put THOUSANDS of hours into this game. I was one of the highest level Arthas in NA, maybe the highest level. I did 99% of my games on him, usually as bruiser Arthas with Sindy and attack speed. Always did my job, got a few upvotes in the end game MVP screen. I played five games of Maiev, loved her, saw her as a third favorite behind Arthas and THE Butcher. The only time I got 9 votes was on Maiev and it felt just spectacular. She feels great. Unfortunately my ex deleted my blizzard account so all that is gone and I don't think I'll ever go back, but... this was a happy memory. I always enjoyed Maiev and hearing you enjoy her was neat.

Actually, Maiev was very strong from the beginning. It was people who didn't know how to play her. Nad even during HGC time, Maiev was the first pick/ban since she appeared - she was and is now very hard to play and very team-oriented.

Yes mine buld Abathur is super toxic. Just like Valeera it is incredibly toxic, frustrating and unfun to play against in an uncoordinated environment, but also practically trivial for coordinated teams to deal with. So it just Stays Like That in the game.

@@_Noirscape Technically Chromie's Time Traps are not "Stasis" they are "Stopped" which also stops Cooldowns, so it works slightly different than "Stasis". But yeah, DW can be affected by both "Stasis" and "Stopped." Also "Shrink Ray" can be used on him as well. At least he can no longer be "Blinded."

nice guy, good streamer ;=) but he plays her awfully xD one of the players you see in qm who never get any quest completed, nor have they any clue which to pick (except the sudden vengeance pick) otherwise no real reflection given about what to pick at one time (there are three main skill trees)... no references to good maiev players. Generally, a random maiev player. But I do really think that this is a Maiev problem because u need to practice and she is not intuitive... gosh, he's not even using his Q ever
