Mailbag Monday starting with Grandpa's Sweater is one of those things that makes everything seem right in the world. Brings me back to the good old days of electronics in 2019. Very nice haul as usual. Excited to see what you do with that LED panel.

The thing with the USB-C thing is that this one likely is just a pass through for phones that still have an internal DAC which is why it is so cheap. Certainly at the beginning of the crusade against 3.5mm manufactures kept the hardware internally but just routed the audio signal over the USB-C port and provided a cheap adapter. For Samsung phones it is possible you need a slightly more expensive dongle one with DAC build in. Generally speaking the ones with a DAC in start somewhere around 10 euros on amazon (no idea what the going rates or on Ebay in Canada though).
@pileofstuff2 жыл бұрын
That sounds likely. I'll have to try a few other phones
@crayzeape22302 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's a standard USB sound chip and the phone just lacks a kernel driver. The ad said it had PC support, and the price matches that of a standard PC 'USB sound card' on Aliexpress.
@crayzeape22302 жыл бұрын
@@pileofstuff I just found a bunch of youtube videos showing how to enable USB audio on various android phones, including samsung devices. Enable developer mode (Go to 'About phone' / tap on 'build number' repeatedly until developer mode activates) Go to System/Advanced/Developer Options. In the Media section, turn off 'Disable USB audio routing' Also check 'updates' in the 'galaxy store', depending on your phone there will be a USB-C update for you to install.

@@crayzeape2230 @Cray Ze Ape I bought two different cheapo usb c headphone adapters, and neither works on my Galaxy S22 Ultra. I found those same videos you talked about and made the recommended settings change, but it made no difference - neither adapter works no matter what I try. I don't know if Samsung has screwed up usb audio support, or if the products are pure scams, but either way I'm pissed off that they dropped the jack on new phones. Absolutely no technical reason - pure marketting bullsh*t!
@crayzeape22302 жыл бұрын
@@RottnRobbie Thanks for the info, I'm guessing Samsung may have screwed with things. A quick test on a PC would prove or disprove the "pure scams" idea.

The example scetch for the LED Panel asks for the number of LEDs high and the number across. After that you play with the code to tell them what you want to do.

I bought that same headphone adapter for my pixel and it also didn't work. I found out some phones don't include a DAC in the phone so you need an adapter with a built in DAC. I'm not sure if this is the case for you, but it seems likely. I found a relatively cheap ($5 USD) at a store called 5 Below that worked, basically a slight step up from any of the dollar stores. Checking eBay they do have some with built in DAC for around $5. Hope that helps.

I bought 2 from ebay that is like a cord splitter but I was so pissed i got the same error code. How do I get it to work?
@notsure34482 жыл бұрын
@@doingstuff76 I think it depends on what phone you have and what adapters you bought. Some phones ship now without the circuitry to convert the audio to analog for the headphones, so you need to buy an adapter with that circuitry built in. I'm not sure what you mean by cord splitter, but if it doesn't have a built in DAC (digital to analog converter) and neither does your phone then it's likely you will keep getting the same error. That's how it was for my pixel 6 pro.

II bought a USB C headphone adapter for around UK £5 to use with an iPhone. Works as advertised for the headphones but the pass through socket only appears to support charging. Good enough for the money but these devices need to be a lot more complicated internally than just running wires between the connectors. There is some digital processing going on as well.

I think the BMP280 is temp/humidity and the BME280 adds air pressure which means you can make an altimeter (if you know current sea level air pressure).

Actually the BMP280 has pressure and temperature and the BME280 adds humidity to the list.

Beer and a breathalyser, and yet no test. Very disappointed - lol -. We used to try and peg the meter on pub machines by gargling vodka, even though we weren't even liquored, ie, alcohol in your mouth will read even though it's not in your bloodstream.
