I buy music boxes just for the mechanisms. I’ve been looking for Moonlight Sonata for years. Of course I could buy a new one but rather find a vintage one. I’m obsessed with all things mechanical powered. I have hundreds of old windup watches and clocks, music machines, metronomes, etc. I bought a Mississippi River paddle wheel boat yesterday that plays “Wish I was in Dixie.” The shaft extends from the barrel and turns a pulley with a rubber band that turns the paddle wheel while it plays. The notes are muffled so I googled how to fix it and came upon your video. I’ve been watching your videos for years so naturally watched this one too.

@steamboatmodel3 күн бұрын
A few years ago I picked one similar to that one except it held six C size batteries. I picked it up because it was cheaper then buying the six cells separately and I needed the batteries for a flash light. it had about the same suck Shone power as yours, until I wired it uo with 24volt nicads. It really sucked then and I ran it until the motors started getting real hot. I let it cool down while I rewired the battery pack (20 rechargeable AAAs) by adding 10 more cells all on a long lead, this I hocked up in reverse polarity. It actually lifted off the ground for a couple of inches and hovered for about 15 seconds until the magic Smole came out of the motors.
@marcd7104 күн бұрын
To summarize: Yes, it sucks. But on so many levels.

Honestly, it's not bad for the price. You could easily spend the same amount on a crappy broom. I'm still unsure as to whether or not the far more expensive ones are worth the money.

@elvinhaak4 күн бұрын
Soo clearly.... just a simple lead-acid-battery (casing)... so no regulators needed... for the size a couple of minutes 'running-time'. Replace with at least 6 V battery-pack or get it on 8 Volts or above.
@stephendredge60774 күн бұрын
Yes the battery is a small two cell lead acid, at least it won't burst into flames or explode, even if charging to 5 volt would be overcharging.

Nice. A more modern version of pretty much the same circuit I built in the early-'00s. I used a 2N3055 and a 2N2222 to drive it, rather than an opamp and mosfet. I mounted it to a tiny (1.5" x 2.5"?) aluminum project box with a bunch of slots dremeled into it and the damn thing would quickly get too hot to hold.

Use the camera shutter on a pwm circuit and shine a light through it, and you have a strobe light. Then you can synch your camera with a moving thing like a motor. Just a thought. With a strobe light at the right frequency you can make things like a helicopter blade look like its in slow motion or even standing still. Thats about the only use I could come up for it.

I like it. One of my coolest projects with Arduino was to take UV LEDs in a black box with a window and pulse them. I used small water pump to pump a stream of highlighter dyed water falling from a tube. With the right pulse rate on the UV LEDs you could make the water drops seem to slow, stop and go back up to the tube. The demo was a hit wherever I showed it.

For the folks that absolutely need instructions for these: You can use a picture of one completed to use as a reference. Especially if youre not familiar with the parts and their correct polarity and the correct resistor values and locations. You can use a multimeter to read your resistor values to ID them as well. I have a couple shoeboxes full of these fun little kits. Its fun to go back and mod them if you're itching to build or play.
