I had six Roomba 620s. Two recently died the same death - the blower stopped running. The dust bin is fine - it works on other Roombas. The little contact tongs on the Roomba that make contact with the aerovac power pins are fine. I've done the 10 second reset and the battery removal hard boot. Nothing works. I took the first one apart, hoping to find a blown transistor on the motherboard. That expedition just turned into a disaster. I'm not going to repeat that. But I'd sure like to fix the Roomba rather than throwing it out. Do you have any relevant wisdom you're willing to throw my way?

The YX8018 is similar and has a chart on it's data sheet. you very the current out put by changing the inductance. If you set it up right, you could tell the inductance of a coil by the current you read.

It is possible to put two YX8018's in parallel on the same inductor then you get a flickering light due to them having slightly different frequencies.

omg --------- i saw the metal box idea ---- uh, then i thought "is that how you build a bomb?" then i thought, wait, do lithium ion batteries need oxygen to burn? ai said --- omg, lithium ion batts generate their own oxygen, the devils!!! ...... my idea would be - just those plano boxes, or a cheapo version, and small batteries tossed into little compartments, and larger ones in larger compartments......and so it's easy to have one compartment, one battery..... i feel planos are cheap, easy to adjust and stack, easy to expand. .you guys no a lot more about this stuff than me, but i just don't like the idea of a metal box holding lithium batteries. .love your vids! and, what sacrilege! you didn't pop a stout at the beginning of this video. i'm guessing this video was a morning one. , have a great 2025, health and happiness.....

The printing work is well done, as for old lithium type batteries, I put them in a bag the city supplies and they go for recycling, if a project arises where a battery is needed I will buy new. Hard for me to do being a hoarder of sorts, but reality is most squirreled away items are seldom ever used.

Hate to break it to you... But all that plastic is basically fuel. Enough to get the cells nice and hot before they start popping. I don't think resin is rated as a fire retardant. And that tin close at hand is probably a good thing to have if you are experimenting. You can lob the damaged lithium cell in the tin, grab it and run outside, holding your breath... But if you are so worried about exploding batteries... Think for a moment. What happens when someone throws a match in a box of fireworks. A great big deep tin of lithium batteries encased in molten bubbling burning plastic is basically a dripping smoking burning nightmare, too hot to carry, that could explode at any moment. Personally... I keep my salvaged cells in several plastic boxes in small quantities, individually wrapped in plastic. I also do voltage spot checks every month. No crushing, bumping or shorting. Happy little cells.

The pla filament that my other printer uses melts at 200C. As i demonstrated, the resin is able to withstand direct flame from a torch.
@Bob_Burton
@Bob_Burton 5 күн бұрын
@@pileofstuff I understand that, but I am afraid that if one of the cells in the storage tin catches fire then it is not going to make much difference as the inside of the tin will become hot enough to melt the insulation on other LiPos and multiple, possibly all, of the cells will catch fire. If the lid does not fit tightly then noxious fumes will be emitted but if it fits tightly the lid will pop off, perhaps quite violently A resin printer is a great, if clumsy, tool for producing limited numbers of detailed parts but I feel that is not what you need here
@pileofstuff
@pileofstuff 5 күн бұрын
@@Bob_Burton Granted, but this is still much better than what I was doing before. Having the batteries physically separated from each other considerably reduces the possibility of that fire starting in the first place.

I figure storing batteries in plaster lined containers would help contain heat and maybe the potential blast , One crazy idea i did have was 3D print a container that’s hollow with no supports inside then create a hole in the shape and pour a load of plaster paris in it so it makes it strong and fire resistant? , If i had enough motivation maybe id give it a go but its all theoretical at the moment 😀

RFID Cards from hotels. Yeah, i always find these cards laying about and scoop them up! "cheap n free" I call em. Where else can you get free cards to play with OR in my case, re-impliment them for useful cards. At my job, we have RFID entry, and you know how some folks are lazy... I found myself locked out of the building a few times, waiting for the next guy to show up. (Mind you I am the guy who opens the building, turns on the lights, shuts off the alarm and starts the time clock.).
