my guess - an empty box being handled by many people as it travelled half way across the world, stacked and moved many times would become flat and tattered soon after the time it became empty - chances are it happened locally. Just guessing.

As a person born in England and moving to Australia aged 12 it seems odd that the USA folk generally don’t eat lamb as it is very common in both UK & Australia.

My daughters sent a parcel to their American friend in California, they too had some stuff stolen out of their box. It's awful that postal workers feel it's okay to steal from their customers.

You say postal but don't put it pass U.S. Customs and Border Protection as another youtuber i watch had them take a number of things which pass on entry many times before.

From someone who has lived in QLD and Albury, trust me 😮they have a dry heat. When my granddaughter was born the whole weeks temps didn’t get below 42 dec C but to this Queenslander it was easier to take on that temp rather than the heat and humidity up here! Oh and if you have a tracking number for your stolen parcel Australia Post can track it to customs. A friend from Canada was upset at how long it took for a parcel to get from her to me. Canadian Post could not tell her where her parcel was but Aust Post let me know when it arrived in Oz, when it passed through customs and when it was on the way to me and they also let me know when it was going to be delivered. Oh love your shirt too Ian, RAD. All my sons names start with the letters RAD.

I always take a video when i pack up something im intending to send via post and have an item list (which im visibly marking off as i pack), then wrap the box with strong tape. Not just the openings, the whole thing is covered in black tape. Then fix the shipping label on it and a disclaimer about the contents being documented on video. So far no-one dared to open it besides the recipient..... :D

Bunnings is my favourite store of all time, second only to Radioshack (before it went under). There is nothing they don't have but the prices there now, like everywhere else, are just off the planet. As for the sausage sizzle they have them around the entrance. However, like every other store, food or drink cannot be consumed inside. Still, there's nothing stopping you from getting your fix before going in.

A tip if you send long distance packages, use a lot of package tape and put the box in a plastic bag

Who said the art of letter writing is dead? It's great that viewers are writing real letters to you guys so that you get a better idea of places you may wish to visit if and when you come to Oz, especially regional and rural areas outside of the big capital cities. Albury-Wodonga or Wodonga-Albury depending on which side of the border you live on, which was mentioned, is an inland city with a combined population of 100,000, which is big by Australian standards. There are actually many large regional centres like this, including Toowoomba (Qld) with 150,000, followed by Ballarat (Vic) with 115,000, both of which are inland cities like Albury Wodonga, and Gold Coast-Tweed Heads (Qld) with 720,000 and Newcastle (NSW) with 520,000, which are on the coast. These all offer the best of both worlds in terms of city and country living.

Another generous and wonderful mail time from everyone, Wow. Sydney looked cute in her outfit at the end 🙂 Gad you enjoyed the package. Ian let me know your reaction to those Bundaberg ginger beer chips! I was skeptical at first but personally I thought they nailed the flavour. That's such a shame about the empty package☹️. Auspost automatically insures to $100 but you can purchase extra if you choose. I always make sure there's a tonne of packing tape around all the edges. Either I do it myself or I request them to add more if they do it lol. And the staff always make sure you provide an email address at least in Qld. Mitre (my-ter 10 )is like Bunnings but the stores are not as big. And they've been around longer I think. "The road ahead" mag is put out by RACQ(a roadside assistance/insura.nce company in Qld) The straw things with the blades on them were from the emergency services expos that I went to. You rub/spin them between your hands and let them go and they will fly. The ambulance rulers are from that too. They gave away a lot of free stuff there. I'll be sure to send you the footagee once I finally get back to finishing it!

Most Mitre 10 stores are franchised, “these days” and were certainly trading in Australia long before Bunnings ever made inroads… and “once upon a time” people actually knew their local hardware, and their staff and products, because they were family owned, and very much community based - but like so many of our ‘cultural norms’, that’s totally gone to shit now, hasn’t it!

If the contents are stolen, then you're out of luck. You'll almost certainly never get it back. Such a shame shit like this happens. There's really not much you can do, as long as there is a human handling the package somewhere along the chain the risk will always be there.

If it was repaired it would be bagged and taped up they haven't attempted to repair it and sent it out knowing they have lost the contents, this is an Aus post stuff up there are certain sorters and drivers that steal especially mobile phones I worked there for 4 years they are a terrible company to deal with

Another wise tip is to declare the contents of the box with an official label, takes the surprise element away but at least you will know what was stolen if it were to reoccur, such a shame, had to be done on your end unfortunately, an empty box would not have left Australia, Sorry for Sam and you guys, it must have been something pretty valuable.

You have to do that in Australia anyways. The customs label in mandatory. You have to declare the contents and the value. You also have to provide a contact phone number and email. At least I've always had to when mailing overseas. So I'm surprised that Ian said there was no way to contact Sam 🤷. Aus post does automatically insure to the value of $100. You can purchase additional insurance if you choose.

I used to work for Aussie Post and there are a couple of things that could have happened, it might have been opened by customs and not sealed properly, causing the contents to fall out. Another possibility is that maybe the tape came undone at some stage and same result. If you see the amount of parcels that Post Offices handle every day, it's easy to have things go missing. Not likely here in Aus that anything was stolen as there are cameras in the sorting areas of the GPO's. Not impossible but not as likely. If someone was trying to steal things I don't imagine they would completely empty the box, more likely take what they want and leave the rest. Not a shrimp, but a lobster, it's down in Kingston in SA

Yeah, I ordered a book from the UK and it didn't turn up within the stated time frame. About 3 months later the book arrive in the original heavy duty envelope. The reason for the delay looked like the sender didn't seal the envelope properly, so I'm guessing that at some point staff got around to matching the book with the empty envelope and sent it on.

was about to ask if you got doorbell / porch cams to catch the porch pirates and stealing deliveries guys (loads of videos of this on youtube. The deliver, take the picture, then pickup the package and leave), but since it was AT the PO-box office, its even worse. It have to be the employees of the delivery services somewhere down the line or at the Po-box service. Hope whom ever sendt that package follow up on the claims.

I have had 2 wine deliveries ( one gift for my daughters birthday, one for the family Christmas celebration) not arrive and have been marked by the courier company as ‘damaged in transit, under investigation) Welcome to Christmas in 2023…. I'm guessing package was damaged from Tasmania to Melbourne. Box was taped up to keep it's contents inside. Once the box got to the US it was discovered by someone seeing it was repaired so they took that opportunity to take the contents and if caught could play dumb and say it was opened back in Melbourne as the box was repaired. But an empty box would be crushed and flattened traveling from Melbourne to the US. So it surely is some prick in the US postal service.

It's not uncommon in the US. I used to send parcels from England to florida for my cousin, and they often had items stolen by customs. Usually when it was goodies like chocolate bars and sweets. It's expensive to send to there too.

Bunnings sausage sizzle is operated by local sporting clubs or service clubs as a fund raiser. Bunnings provide all the equipment. You can buy them on the way into the store or on the way out.... Or both since it's for charity 😂🤣😂

@IWrocker, if Sam B can tell you what he sent, then you may have better luck at the USPS in them searching/questioning employees as to what happened to the contents and/or where the contents went. The package ay have been opened for searching and the employee forgot to place them back in the box, or depending on what the contents were they may have a some need to confiscate for further testing. And if not the USPS employees, they may be able to help you locate them or track their transit to check for any other testing, even in Australia. Hope you can find them, or at least the reason they were not in the box.

If it was searched upon arrival in the US by US Customs, it could have been any employee, or the USPS who took it. But yes, Sma B should enquire too, in case it was Aust Post, or Aust Customs who searched it. Though if Aust Customs or Aust Post who searched it, I highly doubt they would have sent an empty box. More than Likely, Sm B would have been notified that the parcel could not be sent, and the reason why it couldnt.

yeah you can eat Bunnings sausages inside the store ... there was a recent controvery where Bunnings required they put the onions on the bottom of the bun rather than on top of the sausage, to prevent onions falling off and causing a slipping hazard lol

I saw what was stated that was supposed to be inside the box. It said some type of gaming system n other stuff. So yeah I think maybe some one stole it :( I hope it didn’t happen, but you never know. This sucks and never want this to happen to anyone. Please don’t ever send anything valuable ever if this type of stuff can happen. If you ever do want to send us something please insure it but we never ask for anyone to send stuff anyways. This is the first time this happens and it’s sad and I don’t want anyone losing money cause I know how expensive it is. We love everyone of you and your support for our family and your generosity but we will never do it at anyones expense. So yes just be careful and weary. Ah yeah sadly that does make the likelihood of theft a little higher. Especially if the box wasn't taped up too good. Australia post does automatically insure up to the value of $100. And you can purchase extra insurance at the counter if you choose to. I agree with not sending anything too valuable. Or even if you really want to maybe order said item through an actual company that sells it and have them send directly to you.

Just in case this is the issue with the phone number Ian, you'll need to replace the opening number ( a zero) with +61 to dial an Australian mobile (cell).

same with normal land lines you dont use the 0 at the start always starts with the state code ie 2 for NSW, 4 for Qld, 3 for Victoria

It’s unfortunate for both Sam and yourself that the package arrived empty. Maybe Sam can put a complaint into Australia Post (if not insured) as the label ‘This was repaired by Australia Post in Melbourne’ (3:52) kinda indicates where this went wrong. Your video and a shot of the label on the damaged package would be helpful for that. Good luck Sam in recovering your money as I know this would have cost a bit. Love your clips Ian, when are you coming Aus?? 😀

Aussie folks ~ please tape ALL the around the sides and edges, it's still not a 100% safeguard but it gets boxes to their destinations far more safely. I'm in VIC with family in other states. Even sending stuff interstate needs more than the basic packing.

You can eat the sausage sizzle in store, there was a highly controversial incident where somebody slipped on some spilled onions, the solution was to put the onions under the sausage not on top, which was called unAustralian, even by our Prime Minister of the day. The Albury as in Albury/wodonga “twin cities” each side of the Murray River border crossing between Victoria and NSW was always pronounced as “All berry” not “all bury” … and I make the distinction because some people seem to think that funereal references are “off putting” … and I’m not referring to a golfing putter! We also pronounce Albany, the town in Western Australia, which we refer to as W.A. (Not Washington State, USA) as “al ban ee” not “All bany” because we’re a bloody strange mob descended from all sorts of cultures and racial backgrounds … just like not all chinese/asian people sound like the stereotypical “aaah so, belly belly solly” … could be all sorts of people you insult unknowingly “these” days, when most of us just saw humour for what it was - “funny about that”!

I sell Lego and post to the USA alot.. Aust Post has auto cover upto $100aud.. I had a missing package once and it took months to get refunded...just fyi.

Miter 10 is a hardware that only sells good stuff and has top service, Bunnings has cheap nasty stuff and bad srevice ....... if you can find a staff member. Your postal service sucks, I sent you a carton with Falcon, FPV stuff & Samboy chips + little NSW number plates for bedroom doors with Emma and Andrew on them. But sad to say the tracking stopped at LA and it was never seen again. 2 years ago. Australia post looked for over a year with no luck "LA siad it never arived but tracking said it did"
