At the start of their fight, they resist a bunch of damage types, except for "Standard" and Strike damage. You can think of Strike as being like blunt damage, so hammers and clubs. The things that deal standard damage... confuse me, as most of them look like they should deal Slash damage, but you can look up the weapons that deal it on the wiki. Usually, once they've been staggered, those resistances break, and you can deal more damage with other sources, like your better weapons. But when it comes to taking damage from other enemies, using weapons that the player couldn't use, the damage calculations might be/look a little janky, since those damage types might be even more unintuitive.
