HOW TO: Repair VW T3 Sliding door latch lock - MAINDRIVEGARAGE

The sliding door handle have been very hard to move/open the last 2 years and now it finally gave up and wouldn’t open the door anymore. But inside still worked fine.
I thought first the wire Isidre the door had jumped off, but it was a lot worse!! But was cheap and easy to repair, took me about 1 hour and the door is like new now! Time well spent!
The car is a Volkswagen Transporter T3 Vanagon Diesel 1983 Highroof

What if you can't even open the door ? handle mechanism works, inside and out side, but door does not pop open. pulling does nothing. ...I'll look for this broken peice and spray let go.... (Door panel is off)

SAME problem. I noticed the cap catch? at the far end is turning. It has a flat side and I don't know if that is supposed to be facing out and the door is not releasing. Still researching.

Update 2/10/21: a screwdriver at the back "jaw" will uinlatch the doorfrom the striker, I noticed top bolt at door just pulled right out, that needs to be tight.....replacement part coming and I asked for the hardware too...but it might be a broken captive nut....so many other things to fix on this...going to circle back, ha..

I have the same problem as both you and the others with my sidedoor suddenly not opening. I can also turn the handles inside and outside but it fells like it it not grabbing anything on the mechanism so door is just stuck closed.
