This is a terrific tutorial - thank you. I bought my son a Kinetik 2.0 for Christmas, and it was great stringing it with him with help from this video. I'm really grateful. One question... I saw that Greg from ECD just came out with another stringing video for this head, and his pattern is quite different. Any thoughts on how his pocket would play/feel different from yours?
@mainelymesh3 жыл бұрын
Our patterns are usually pretty different, but in this case they're closer than usual. You'll notice Greg uses a pretty different knot structure, but the placement of the mesh diamonds is pretty similar. Greg's pattern pulls down 4, floats 1, floats 2, then has 3 ones. The pattern in this video follows the same concept, just with an extra one tacked onto the end. Mine will just be a little more locked down/less shifty, but overall should feel pretty similarly. Mine might also sit a smidge higher.

@@mainelymesh Thanks again for this awesome response - exactly what I was looking for. Gives you a great sense of what an art this is... there's an infinite number of small variations, that can add up to big differences. You've got an enormous amount of skill and knowledge to know how to use those variations to create a more playable pocket.

I've got a Kinetic 2 pattern for you with StringKing 4s: Skip 6 hitch 9 diamond top string with center diamond mesh connector supported by top string (how Ecd Greg does it) Loop start on 1st 10d row Si also on 1st 10d row Skip Ak (2nd 10d row) Ksi (3rd 10d row) Skip Ksi (4th 10d row) Skip Ksi (5th row) Skip Ksi (6th row) Skip 1si (7th and 8th row) Skip 1 (9th row) Skip Skip 1 tie off (10th row) I've got short loop bottom lace on the 11th 10d row up through the middle two throat holes. Shooters are two straight and a nylon on the 1st three 10d rows. The 1s and 1si go through back of mesh how Mainely Mesh Chris does it but no knots or tie offs between the the ksi and the 1si or the 1si and the next 1.

Quick question Chris, I saw on the first few knots after the anchor knots, you went back through the same mesh that the knot was tied on them pulled it down... what’s the difference in that comparing to just tie the knots and move on to the next row(like what you did after forming the high pocket)?
@darylli57683 жыл бұрын
Just to make it more secure?
@mainelymesh3 жыл бұрын
@@darylli5768 it has more to do with pulling the mesh to the outside for proper tensioning. If you replaced the anchor knots with those Knotted SIs, it would pull the mesh too wide, so I usually start with an anchor knot or two, and then move to the knotted SI's in the midsection. The one's you see at the end where the mesh is floating allows the bottom of the pocket to move with the ball. Good question!
@darylli57683 жыл бұрын
@@mainelymesh got it thanks. I been doing my pockets with knots that only go through the mesh’s one time( like the ones you did towards the bottom)all the way down after 2 anchor knots. Those pockets came out kinda baggy and shift around a bit, that’s how I like it. But if I go through the mesh another time after the knots like the ones you did on the mid-section in this video ( are they called knotted SI?), I will end up with a more defined pocket that doesn’t shift as much?

why did you use a knotted stacked si, instead of a regualr stacked si in this?
@mainelymesh3 жыл бұрын
I've come to use knotted SSI's almost exclusively as I find them to be a little more consistent over time. No significant difference though.

Stringing this up now... isnt it a general rule that you only want to go 10 diamonds down when stringing the sidewall? You did 11 in this video
@mainelymesh3 жыл бұрын
Honestly seems to depend on the mesh these days. General rule is 10 diamonds with the throat string on the next 9 diamond row (so call it 10.5), but I've taken to putting the throat string on the next 10 diamond row for a little more bag, which would make it 11.
@figbootbottom65113 жыл бұрын
will the channel still be tight when only pulling down three diamonds?
@mainelymesh3 жыл бұрын
I always count the first 10d row that I loop to the sidewall as part of the 4, so this has the standard 4 pull downs I've mentioned in other videos. Good clarification!

IYO ... is there a difference in doing the last 3 1’s /floats going Up though the mesh hole ?
@mainelymesh3 жыл бұрын
Howdy Tim! I've always though that going up on your 1's pushes the mesh to the outside. The difference is subtle, but I think going down through your 1's keeps the mesh in better contact with the ball.
