The best shieldbreak I have ever seen, for those who are wondering, the neutral B has a very high shieldstun, which in a normal situation distances the combatants so much that it allows them to escape or at least be hit, but Skyjay hit it in the air, like this that push was not given and BOOM!! Dead at 15%

It's kinda to hard to tell what exactly happened but I think that skyjay jumped and neutral b which hit maister's shield in the air, skyjay lands behind maister, but because of the lariat hit with the front hitbox while skyjay was moving forward , maister ends up just being pushed back right in front of incineroar again in which he moves essentially nowhere and the rest of the lariat lands for the full shield break. It also doesn't help that gnw roll is pretty bad at like frame 5.

Air dariat doesnt create as much space as ground dariat, letting it continue to chain hits. Also, frame 5 back roll is normal frame data. Forward roll is f4 like most characters too.

I think that it was a combination of it being the aerial version of darkest lariat and revenge making all of the moves have more shieldstun. I also remember when skyjay played against Leo at an online tournament where he broke his shield with darkest lariat in 3 hits (back hitbox) while it usually breaks shields in 4 hits. Maybe that had an effect too.

Skyjay and Amsa are the literal embodiment of "screw the tier list". They keep making matchup that sound bad on paper look doable

Amsa is a bit different. He found a certain meta after almost 20 years of the game being out. I think in the coming years you’re going to see more and more low tiers climbing up the ranks in ultimate. But compared to melee this game is still in its early stages.

Online I would call this matchup even, but offline this is a -2 matchup for Skyjay, how he wins these interactions? I don't know, no incineroar can replicate this.

Maister tilts easily and when he does, he spams Up B and dash attacks. Skyjay is a master at punishes and reads. It may be a good matchup for Maister character wise, but player wise it's his nightmare.

This matchup is too bad for incineroar imo. Revenge is easy to get and his side b is so strong in this matchup. GnW is of course extremely light and incin only needs a few side b to win but GnW also doesn't really have the range to zone incin out nor the speed to really control the pace. Incin can easily catch GnW running away with his side b and GnW is doing the work to approach him then the other way around. Yes GnW juggles the shit out of him but it isn't easy to close it out and the longer incin isn't dead the more dangerous it is

It seemed like Skyjay knew what moves of his would clank or be intangible against them though, so I suppose there is some counterplay. I just struggle to see how the slowest character in the game gets around those disjoints but Skyjay is built different.

Translating the way they did is a very difficult thing to do. Some phrases in Spanish and English don’t translate over very well. So they did an amazing job

Whether you want to believe it or not, he’s actually quite difficult to play, especially at a top level. All of those combos that he makes look easy? Most require reading the opponent’s DI, and getting in with GnW can be pretty tough, due to his poor approach tools. There’s a reason Maister and Miya are the only top level GnW players.

Up smash is fully invincible, lasts 5 frames and is safe on shield. The only downside is that it’s kind of slow. But gnw doesn’t have any viable combos that don’t come from nair and up air. All the other stuff doesn’t work in a competitive setting and his fair kills really late. His bair kills kind of late. His nair kills super late. His up air basically doesn’t kill. His dair kills not well and it’s predictable and not very fast. His f tilt kills well but it’s laggy and his down tilt is super laggy and will never hit someone in the air due to the game’s programming. Spamming up and down smash low key are some of his best options as sad as it is.

I know my opinion doesn’t matter nor should it, but I severely dislike the way a lot of GnW’s play. I feel it’s boring, brainded and bad for the meta. Get gud maister seriously…you should not be losing this mu at all. Maybe he wasn’t playing good or his mindset wasn’t there but cmon dude I expect more from a cheesy ass high tier.
