A brilliant and classy interview indeed by the awesome Hazel Ward. Peter Minshall is truly brilliant and creative. It shows how sophisticated we were in times past without the technology we have now. Loved Aunty Hazel's voice!

The way educated Trinidadians used to speak. Brilliant camera work, great set, top notch conversation, and what a charismatic presence! Different times indeed.

@@cryl54 Thank you, but I can only wish. I have consciously tried to follow the example of our best citizens, like Lloyd Best, Naipaul, Williams, CLR James. And Minshall clearly stands among them. But his charisma is overwhelming here. He is absolutely mesmerising.

Kirk Meighoo, yes he is. As a former "Minshallite" I miss my Masman. Part of the annual experience was listening to Minsh talk about the Mas he had produced that year. Out on the streets, feeling the wave of excitement and anticipation ripple through the crowds as we approached the various stages. Bliss!!

This is amazing. I love that we have record of this interview. I would not be quick to glorify such a British sounding accent over other kinds of Trini accents. I'm Seeing those kinds of comments here where that way of talking is preferred and considered one of class and of someone who is highly educated as opposed to another kind of trini accent. That's what I'm getting. I appreciate all languages and accents. I place none above the other. They all have wonderful history.

THIS. This is what Miss Lou fought and devoted her life to abolishing from our mindset

Arielle Ramkissoon it’s not that this way of talking is considered more high class at all. But Trinidad is an English speaking nation and the people here are speaking English and yes with an accent too. But in this situation they are speaking properly. If the situation was different and the vernacular was used and it was appropriate so to do, then that would ALSO be fine. There is a time and place for anything. People do not know the difference.
@mrosjo5 жыл бұрын
The fake accent is driving me crazy. Speaking properly is separate and apart from speaking with a faux British accent. I know this is a crazy notion to a lot of people, but you can speak the Queen's English without speaking in the Queen's accent. It's not a question about speaking vernacular. And of course T&T has many accents, but faux British isn't one of them. For the love of all things holy, stop perpetuating the myth that "this" is proper speaking.
@65NART3 жыл бұрын
@@mrosjo what nonsense. No one is putting on anything here. This is how he spoke and this is how Hazel spoke. When you are with your friends you speak as you wish. At work or school etc. you have to speak properly. Time and place.
@mrosjo3 жыл бұрын
@@65NART Pretty sad that you equate speaking properly with laying on a thick British accent. The idea that broadcasters needed to do that is a relic of its time.

Megaredronin oh dear. I love it. “Jesus Charlie”. I would not know where to look had I been in his presence. As much as I understand the need to be truthful to your culture etc. you have to know when to stop. I mean can you imagine speaking like that in a board meeting? And then you have industry employers saying prospective employees do not have proper language skills, or at the very worst people are leaving school without the basics. It is worrying.
