I keep hearing but England topped there group. The sad truth is that England failed to beat a poor Slovenia side and had to rely on Denmark failing to beat Serbia who finished bottom. Arguably they are lucky to top there group having only scored 2 goals and what a mess it would have been having landed in the harder side of the draw when it was in there own hands. In the upcoming match with Slovakia minnows, I think England should play more square balls back and forth to increase their dominance, say in that little area around their own 18 yard box. If anyone presses, they can simply tap it back to Pickford, who then redistributes it back to the edge of the 18 yard box again, only THIS time to the other side of the pitch, where players can again renew their intricate and unplayable square ball passing strategy. This will no doubt fool the Slovakian players, who will simply be overwhelmed at the mounting pressure, and panic. Liquid football.... To mix it up, Pickford can also kick it right up the pitch now and again, a truly modern tactic known as 'hoofing', which gives a very respectable 30/70 chance of getting back posession in advanced positions. Once there, buoyed up by that sweet, sweet trumpet and drum warcry from the stands, players will confidently resume playing it square again, just over the halfway line, to ensure sure that all Slovakian players can get back behind the ball, thus muddying up their own defence and allowing England to exploit the now exposed narrow 'channels'. Unbeatable. In the highly unlikely event that this square ball phase doesn't 'suck' the ball into the net, our best players can fall back to the 'Hollywood Ball Screamer' technique - a la Stevie Gerrard - where a player way outside the 18 yard box cleverly feints an intelligent pass, but then unexpectedly tries to melt the ball into the net with a wild but closely controlled wallop on the half volley. If by some random chance, that doesnt work, the ball will undoubtedly hit one of the opposing defenders anyway and drop dead for a masterful Kane tap-in, thus sealing the fate of a now-despondent Slovakia for a thoroughly deserved win and dominant march onto the quarters. Southgate is truly underrated. I predict an easy canter to a 4-0 victory.

We have the Premier League in this country, filled with overseas players because they are generally good. So what about the good players in the lower leagues here who dont get a sniff at an England cap? Maybe if the scouts spread their nets a bit wider there must be some good if not better players in the lower leagues that would kill for the opportunity and not be as stressed out as the PL players always seem to be and use it as an excuse for a pisspoor performance. This does not solve the real problem, which is on the left, with tripper being right footed he comes inside which slows down play and then foden playing on the left and right footed we have the same problem with him coming inside so we lose our width and overcrowd the middle, against Slovenia we over loaded the left to compensate and had nothing down the right. We need a natural left back and garden on the right who will attack along the left hugging the line.
