My problem with Margiela is that they all smell literally the same. All's I get is aldehyde. I envy you your experience.

Thanks for watching. When you say aldehydes, which one are you referring to? As they all smell differently. E.g. floral, soapy, fruity, powdery, green etc. They're usually used in fragrances to brighten up and expand the fragrance. For example Chanel No. 5 is a mix of aldehydes C-10 (sweet orange peel), C-11 (floral and zesty) and C-12 MNA (clean, soapy rose). What you smell in many perfumes is a blend of aldehydes which make them all smell differently...and yes, I have a good nose, which is why I'm good with wines too.

@@EveDawes TBH they smelled exactly like Chanel #5 which hits my nose as a sort of harsh chemical smell. I don't get any of the sub notes you do, just the alcohol harshness. So interesting how it can be so different for me from how you experience it

@@blktauna it really is, that's why it's so fascinating. A bit like how we all taste things differently and like/dislike different foods. E.g. I love Cilantro and can't believe it tastes like soap to some!
