It does not matter if Boeing cannot create a work atmosphere of excellence, trust and quality. Many people forget that some of the worst issues were created by Boeing itself. Spirit also had problems of course, but people should definitely not believe that taking over Spirit will solve all the problems at Boeing. The problems at Boeing are numerous. Boeing need to stop focusing on shareholders and stock value. Until all the problems have been rectified, any focus on shareholders and stocks will only make things worse. Boeing management also needs to regain the trust of their employees and that will only happen if Boeing stop their childish behavior against whistleblowers. Finally, Boeing need to regain the trust of passengers worldwide and that may prove impossible. I for one will never fly with a 737 MAX. I will pay anything to fly an Airbus airplane instead and for international flights, I will check all possibilities and always select a route where I can fly Airbus airplanes. I don't trust Boeing whatsoever and that will never change unless several Boeing people are being sent to jail for the murder of 346 innocent passengers and crew. Unless that becomes reality, I will not fly on board a Boeing airplane.

"Airbus will be compensated for agreeing to take on the work by a payment of $559 million from Spirit, while it will pay a nominal sum of $1 for the assets, depending on the final outline of the deal, it said in a statement." Shows how important this deal is for Boeing, they more or less pays Airbus money for not taking this merger to the European competition regulators which can make much problems since the involved factories are in Europe and therefore out of reach for US regulators

At least Airbus and its employees won’t have to deal with Spirit anymore. Airbus will basically be putting together the main parts of its aircraft in their own factories now, which is good. But it’s definitely a good decision by Boeing and I hope that all goes well (but I’m skeptical).

Given how many issues seemed to be secondary effects from Boeing management decisions, it seems questionable how much could improve anything. Plus even if QA problems came from Spirit, that is still something they should have been looking out for when Boeing management decided to spin them off in the first place. Which there should have been plenty of leverage to get QA via contracting process in the window they were a supplier largely dependent on them, unless just was not willing to spend the money to do things properly, which with Boeing seems far more likely in recent decades.

It took 19 years later after Boeing first divested the Wichita, Kansas, U.S. plant in order to pursuit of increased return of net assets. The reason why in part was from former CEO Harry Stonecipher, who if you are history buffs he came from McDonnell Douglas. I mean there is more history of that assembly building than what I had described in the previous sentence of course.
