Taking one's own notes is powerful. And there's a nice bonus in this lesson, which in a subtle way gets you to pay attention to what's always under the fingers as you navigate the fretboard.

I've been trying different voicings on the guitar but never thought about trying it on the bass; almost everything is just a basic barr chord. I've never heard it explained this way and my mind is blown! Thanks!

Thank you, Rich. I'll be watching this one a couple/few times. I've been working on getting more familiar with a new fretless six-string friend. I haven't touched a four string bass from the time I shifted to five string. I never really looked back, but I like the way that you are making your lesson accessible to the four string learners as well. Please keep it up!

I play a five string mainly, but this fits in quite closely with what I've been doing lately, deconstructing guitar chords and applying them to bass. That aside, that's a gorgeous guitar you have! Sounds really nice too. I've been 6syring curious lol. How is it tuned? B to B? Thanks for these insights. By the way, "This Lotus Ascension" destroyed me man. Just beauty. I'm buying the record.

Rich, if you were to put together an exhaustive book and/or master class on 6 string bass guitar chords, voicings, modal relationships, playing "outside" the expected scale/chord relationships, and maybe even taking some jazz standards and/or Beatles tunes and creating solo performances on 6 string (with bassline, accompaniment, and melody played together like a finger-style guitarist would do), I would be FIRST in line to purchase this! Been searching Google, and this kind of resource for 6 string bass just doesn't exist, or it's really hard to find.

How do you recommend remembering the numbers of the chord? (5 and octave is easy) I’m looking at some chords I’ve written the notes out for right now and (I’m looking at G Harmonic Minor) I have all my note names but not the number that note may apply too

Love this channel! You're a great teacher. Good call on not doing the pdf thing. It wouldnt increase your subscriber count and would be a ton of work and you wouldnt want to make videos anymore and that would suck. It's not that type of channel. Keep it old school the vibes are better.

It is totally without sense what you show here. This kind of playing can be listened only by others bassists but you cannot show it while band playing. It us funny but 40 years ago there were bassists who could play chords in usable way, in band. You are doing this wrong dude
