I'm American and I live in Italy. The Italians have us beat on safety, health, environmental awareness and racism is basically not even a thing. I pay $0.00 to go to one of the best universities in Europe. Americans have Italians beat at making money.

I don't know, I've been living here for over a year and I've never felt victimized by my race, where as in America it's a constant, everyday thing. Yea italians have problems with people who aren't italian, sure i've been treated differently at times because I'm american and I see how Italians regaurd foreign migrants, but I don't think it's an inherent race thing. That's just my opinion.

I was born in Guyana and moved to Canada 5 years ago. I visited Brooklyn,New York for the first time last winter and I got stranded and I guess people thought I was homeless and walked past me when I kept asking for help but I find when I'm lost downtown Toronto no matter how busy someone is they always stop to give directions but I'm not saying one place is more polite than the other but in New York is everyone is always very busy compared to Scarborough. That hits the point that you made about the hustle, it's very real.

I cannot wait to transition to the Canadian life and culture. Everything Canada does I support especially their education system. I told my friends who weren't able to go on the trip, after visiting Montreal, that if I were to bring any child into this world or raise any child already here on this planet, that they would be going to Canadian school. After the EXTREMELY poor( not as in funds poor, but as in priorities, mentalities) school system I went through I would NEVER want any of my children to go through that. I'm only 17 but I'm thinking ahead, and definitely thinking about what kind of life would be best for them, and it isn't a life here in the states.

Ottawa is definitely probably the best place, not only is it the capital, but there is smaller areas right out side the city with awesome houses, everything is very simple to get to! & it is not super busy & not too too expensive like Toronto :)

This is my own personal experience which is limited to 4 major cities in 2 countries in a 6 min video. USA dominates in sports, entertainment and sciences and is overall the land of opportunity to live the "American Dream" which appeals to the hustlers and dreamers. This is the land of opportunity both of people and corporations alike. Canada has a glass ceiling so if you're too ambitious you may hit that. I love Canada for the foundation it gave me and I love USA for the opportunity it allows for my creativity.

I think it's hard because you're experience of the US is completely different than that of most Americans. Most Americans don't live in major cities but in smaller towns and cities and there experience with family and money and hustle are completely different than LA and New York, which are probably the two US cities most famous for their hustle mentalities.

A small town still doesn't change the price of tuition, or health care. Here in Canada, u get sick, u go to a hospital, clinic, or doctor, no worries. We arent thinking, 'I might have to mortgage my house, if someone in my family gets cancer'. God forbid. I'm sorry that Americans have to go through this b.s. No one should have to worry about their health, over their home.

Im from Panama. I still don't understand why public schools in the USA don't wear uniforms? Some one told me kids need to express themselves by clothes. I said kids can express themselves before or after school. Wearing uniforms is way cheaper.

Wearing uniforms in the U.S. is not worth the money they charge us. You could buy a full outfit and it'll barely last you a year coupled with the fact that each time you grow that's more money for you to shell out. Some retail stores have started selling basic khakis and polos so that people who can't afford the official uniform could at least look like they're satisfying the dress code but most schools like my middle school had custom designs and colors and made it impossible to replicate for a cheaper price & better quality. I rather us wear our own clothes especially in the elementary-middle school grade levels. High school is only four years and that's doable since you don't grow as much as you do in the younger grades.

Don't forget about the guns. There are quite a bit of (shot)guns in Canada (i.e. for hunting), but per capita, there way less guns and much less gun crimes. no shootings like in Lafayette, Alabama :(

Joyce Lee Yea I just thought of that. Everyone here has a 50/50 mentality towards gun laws. But I live in Winnipeg, known for its slurpees and crime rates. Although our crime rates have been dropping I've noticed one thing; I have lived all over my city, in the rougher areas and calm areas, but not once have I or any of my friends/family heard a gunshot. Not only that but when you do hear the word "shooting" people are in shock and everyone in the city finds out... Because it rarely happens and when it does it's normally between two gang members. People here rob with bare fists (I know that from experience), and rather smash car windows for change than rob a store.

Olivia Ray even with an exchange rate, I live in Georgia, USA. LOL. A $400k CAD home is still close to $300k USD. YOU CAN GET A MINI MANSION IN ATLANTA FOR UNDER $300k! Those $400k homes on Property Brothers leave a lot to be desired even with all the great renovations! I love that show, but uhhhh, those prices aren't what's hot in these TV streets, lol. +dalevlog Naw, man. I've lived in a huge city in Brazil and I've visited huge cities in Canada (plus lived in Edmonton the past 15 years) and Canada's definitely less violent, has better education, and the healthcare's great (not as great as Cuba's, but ours is pretty damn good). :)

+PaddySnuffles Honestly, Blue states in America have universal healthcare, exceptional education/school districts, gun safety laws/gun restrictions and all that stuff too, but with the added benefit of having an environment in which to succeed in the sciences, business, the arts etc. (not to mention a diverse and beautiful landscape!) It's really just the red states that are backwards. Both countries are great places to live, but you just have to look at the parts of the countries that suit you best :)

Andy Blaszkiewicz-DiBacco Oh, I believe you. But since she's referring to the countries as a whole rather than an area, the red states affect the end result of the comparison. I'm from the Canadian equivalent of Texas, and despite being a _super_ conservative province stuff like open carry, stand your ground, or removing universal healthcare would never be acceptable. I don't mean to say that the US is horrid - just that, overall, Canada's safer and more educated. Of course there's areas of the US that are great! If there weren't Bernie wouldn't be a senator. ;)

It is true that our educational system in the primary and secondary school system is of higher standard than the US, but the US does have some really high quality post-secondary institutions, it's sad how ademics in Canada are preferably hired if they went to an american university for their PhD

Yep, I'm from AB (by way of Brazil originally). The education thing is sadly true for a lot of countries despite the US post-secondary institutions being no better or worse than those in other countries. It's why so many people who have phds in their home countries end up being cabbies and stuff when they move to the US (and a lot of countries - such as Brazil - participate in the same discrimination, unfortunately). It's unfair all around, I'd say. :/

The US has us (Canadians) beat when it comes to cell phone costs. Canadian carriers charge a fortune for data! Unless you have a corporate plan, unlimited phone data is virtually unheard of ... either that or you have to spend hundreds of dollars a month. In terms of things that really matter though (safety, health care, education, general standard of living), Canada surpasses the US.

I See Melanie I think that might depend on the phone company here in the US. Because Verizon is SOOOOO expensive and the took away the unlimited data plans. And service for t-mobile and sprint aren't as good where I live.

Yeah, I've definitely heard from American friends and family that the plans can vary amongst providers. Americans are still better off though - I pay $85 a month for 2 gigs, and I had to fight with my provider (Telus) so hard to get that! I had to speak to 3 different levels of management for over an hour on the phone to get them to give it to me at that price. It's so ridiculous here!

Hey Ms. Shameless, you've only lived in American cities that hustle hard. In my experience there are places in the midwest, south and suburban areas of most states that are more family/community/group oriented. Another good thing that I will say about America having lived in Detroit and been to Canada many times is that in America there are a lot more opportunities to make money in whatever field you choose. The Caribbean once had the best education system. Esp Guyana (South America) Guyanese kids would migrate and literally eat up their syllabuses. The work is not that hard. And I'm sure its still the same way. We never get passed to another class when our grades aren't that well. Its a strict system. Access to proper universities is the only drawback. There is always a Guyanese person excelling somewhere abroad.

As a tourist I generally find retail costs more in Canada (Walmart, Target, Forever 21 H&M, etc) than it does in the US but i understand why. Canadians say "ey" or "a" all the time and "guy". As a Trini visiting both countries from time to time, these are the things I've noticed: - I've seen more Asian people and communities in Canada than in the US - I've noticed hella more interracial couples, particularly with black men of Caribbean descent with Asian women, black/caucasian, etc. - Toronto is generally cleaner than Manhattan - Nightclubs close early, like 1am or 2am? - Transportation getting in and out of Toronto not that great, compared to NYC - For international students, Canadian tuition costs more. In the US we pay double, but in Canada we pay triple what a legal resident or citizen pays - Canadian Customs Officers asks more questions than the US (except if traveling thru Miami) - In Trinidad, the visitor visa application process in terms of documents is more exhaustive than the US, however the process itself is better than the US, cuz the US make us wait in line outside (not for too long tho) then we're called inside in groups. That being said I've only been to a few US states and only 3 provinces in Canada but I love them both.

I feel like Canada would never let me fall flat on my face if I fall on hard times; whereas, there are so many people living around the poverty line and on the streets. Also, retirement in Canada is much more affordable with the retirement benefits, which includes free or almost free healthcare. I am an Bosnian-American living in USA. I also lived in Germany, Sweden, Bosnia and Austria and even though these countries have some pros compared to America, they also have a lot of cons. Major difference is quality of life. Now what is quality of life? Assuming you're a somewhat smart person and not 200% in debt, America is the place to be. Whether you want to work your way up to be a millionaire and live like a king, or just enjoy all aspects of life as a middle class citizen, it's all up to you. If you're into traveling and exploring pretty much every climate zone and geographical points of interest, America it is. If you're into big cities or just small towns, America has more to offer. You like diversity and trying out food from every culture on the planet? America scores there too. You can set up your life the way you want it, there are so many possibilities to be happy and enjoy it. Can't say the same for many other countries. United States has it all, you just gotta know how to find, whether is real sugar soda or the special something you enjoyed so much elsewhere outside America. The country has its problems, but so do all other countries. None of them are perfect, but general quality of life and easy access to everything you may want or need, America is the place to be. That's exactly why so many people fight for that green card and American way of life. It's a melting pot nation so if you as a foreigner manage to get the language right, you have endless opportunities.

The quality of healthcare you will receive here in the US is by far the best in the world. Free healthcare means your basically going to sacrifice the quality. Doctors have no reason for being competitive so they are very relaxed about the quality of healthcare they give you. Don't be fooled by what you hear not all health care in Canada is free. Plus along with the decrease in quality of the healthcare you will be waiting a really long time before you receive the care you are needing. Often times you are put on a waiting list. So like most things in life that come free you sacrifice the quality and the response to your specific emergency.. Not so perfect now huh?

I did a report on this in my first year of med school. The facts are out there if you do your research. Average American healthcare is far better then any other healthcare in the world. It is against the law for a Doctor to deny a person in need of care. No doctor will risk losing their license by providing poor healthcare. That makes no sense. Two things she didn't mention that I've noticed about Canada is the multicultural and diverse demographics. It doesn't appear to be as much racism and/or racial issues because of it. This may also factor into why America's education system isn't up to par. This country operates a lot in terms of money, status, and race which is done to keep certain demographics inferior to others. Canadians also appear to be more well-traveled. It's almost nothing for them to get on a plane and go to Jamaica, Europe, Africa, etc., etc., while in America, at least for most, it's a big deal to take a trip outside the country. It involves more saving and planning. A trip like that is thought of as a privilege or something extraordinary that only happens when people have money or save for year/s. In Canada it seems to be a way of life. I do like those aspects of Canada vs. America. I will say, it's evident there are many things Canadians look up to regarding America, but sometimes don't admit. There's a pride that comes from either side when people speak of their birth places and countries. I think the lack of family unison that she feels is probably due to the fact that she lives or lived in hustle and bustle areas where she doesn't have much family. If you go to other states that are less about trying to "make it" in highly-competitive, billion dollar industries that are designed for only a few to "succeed" and are very cut-throat, there is a greater sense of family and support. However, I do feel in America, we see our coworkers more than we see our family members. I think about that quite often and it's very sad and backwards when you think about it. It's my goal to change that aspect in my life.

I was in British Columbia last week and noticed that the liter of of gas is $1.69 which is almost $7 a gallon Canadian or $4.90 gallon USD ... which translates to Canadian gas being at least 25 30% higher than in the US even though they have large oil reserves in Saskatchewan gas in Canada is much higher than in the US ...
