To make the Ice Palace easier you should do Dark World Dungeon 6 Misery Mire before the Ice Palace. That way, you can use the red cane (Cane of Somaria) to hold the pressure switch down. This makes the 2nd 1/2 of the Ice Palace a lot easier.

To be fair, I already knew that trick already myself, but I just chose not to do it. The reason why is because of this: In the Game Boy Advance version of this game, the Ice Palace got a major makeover to where you are actually FORCED to backtrack in the dungeon. Therefore, the Cane of Somaria for the Ice Palace has been rendered useless in that version.
