Many dancers also don't like it themselves, but they HAVE to wear it. It's in the rules. It is believed that it looks good when dancing because the Irish "traditionally" had curly hair... or something like that.

Actually, wigs are not required. A few dancers have competed at the national level without wigs.

Yeah, some girls with REALLY long hair could curl it with pin-rollers but most girls just wear wigs.
