Just an idea for the removable rail section; 4 joist hangers (different than normal hangers because the nailing flanges are inside the hanger not to either side) basically a U shape cap to hang the rail section in. All my garden walls are removable like this.

Suggestion: 1. you could have 2 doors/entry into the mud room. 2. Sliders all across the front of mud room instead of windows would let a lot more light into mudroom and house! Looking good!

Why not straight out the door in the middle of the mud room and a nice French door and wide steps? Right in the middle! Not on the right and not on the left. Straight through with a wide stair case. Probably too late now anyway!

JudithB Good job so far!! I was wondering if Tinys battery would work in the side by side????? I finally got all the peppers planted, 2 cherry toms and a pot of oregano in the garden. I also planted 4 hanging pots for the front porch with asperagus fern and dark red petunias. Also caught the teen chicks in the barn and put them outside in the chicken yard. They had never been in the sun before, but they came in with the other chickens last night, and outside this am!! Now to wait for that first egg!!! LOL!!

Put a scrap piece of osb or plywood in the back of biggie before you shovel in the rock and sand.. easier to shovel out because your flat shovel has a smooth surface instead of the ridged bed of the truck.

I will tell you about the last house me and my brother rented and we watered and mowed 1 acre of grass and it took me 4 years to get where I wanted and my brother wanted it to want to walk barefoot in the cool green grass of summer and water the grass I had main 2 inch lines around the house and 22, 150 foot hose and set in zones so I have pulled a lot of hoses because in winter we drain and coil them up and hang in our shop so they would not break

What is the frost depth there in Arkansas for footings? Those shallow footings may be OK for a deck. However, may want to or need significantly deeper footers to support an enclosed room w a roof.

I’ve refinished 3 houses. I’d sacrifice road space out front to have the steps come straight out. I’ve gone through too many struggles hauling things in/out with tight turns. My second choice would be the way you landed with a gate! All I know is Gary HAS to be sick of figuring out crazy angles from the back deck, so for Gary’s sanity I hope you stick to right angles on this one.😂

For the entry/ mud room: If you have the door at the far end/left side of the space, you make it a left hinge and adequate standing room to the right, If you have the door at the far end/right side of the space, you make it a right hinge and adequate standing room to the left. If you locate the door in the center, it could be either way: The space to the right of the door, stair on right end of the building, left door hinge. The space to the left of the door, stair on left end of the building, right door hinge. I would put the stair end on the side where the driveway is. That would put the door left hinge, if the driveway is to the right end of the building. Open the door with left your hand and walk through door with groceries in your right arm. Plus, you are locating the entry door at the center of the building where the front hall leads to the kitchen, and directly across is the deck door. So, if you have screen doors, you can cross ventilate thru the front and back doors.

Hey guys, how are your backs holding up? Keep the warm packs ready to heat up during breaks, it helps mobility and comfort. Great work both of you. When you first talked about the mud room I pictured a front set of steps rising to the door. You could do that as a colonial look too, if you get what I mean. On the shovels, are you converting to the shorter D handle for your digging to put less strain on your backs? Hope so because the long handles can trigger spasms if you already have a sensitive back. I have watched you now for a while and you over extend your back, high reach, with heavy loads, stoop to pick up items. My back problems taught me the hard way to flex the knees for lifting, even the small stuff because, as you know, once the back kicks, work slows right down and fun goes out the window to be replaced by cranky pants. This comes from a caring place, not criticizing. Take care you guys.
