Major reasons of Nose, Ear & Throat cancer and its prevention - Dr. Sayan Das
The causes of ENT cancer can vary, but certain risk factors have been identified. Tobacco use, including smoking and smokeless tobacco, is a leading cause of ENT cancer, particularly cancers of the larynx and oral cavity. Excessive alcohol consumption, especially when combined with tobacco use, further increases the risk of developing ENT cancer. Additionally, exposure to certain environmental factors, such as industrial chemicals, asbestos, and wood dust, may contribute to the development of these cancers. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection has also emerged as a significant risk factor for some types of ENT cancer, particularly oropharyngeal cancer.
Symptoms and Early Signs
Recognizing the symptoms of ENT cancer is crucial for early detection and prompt intervention. Symptoms may vary depending on the location and stage of the cancer but can include persistent hoarseness or changes in voice, difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), persistent sore throat, ear pain, nasal congestion or bleeding, a lump or mass in the neck (neck mass), and unexplained weight loss. These symptoms may initially be subtle or overlooked, emphasizing the importance of regular medical check-ups and awareness of potential warning signs.
