I’ve been playing for 9 years and just learned the 5 chord was 1,2&5 string. I’ve always thought it was only B pedal D lever and any of the grips.We can learn so much with Aaron if we’ll just slow down and take the time to listen and take mental as well as physically writing the notes down. These kinds of lessons will help get you out of a “Wreck” or if you’ve gotten lost in a ride. Thank you so much Aaron. I sold my 92 Mullen in March of 93 and am getting a new Rittenberry one day next week.I can’t wait to apply all of these things you’ve taught us. I haven’t been behind a steel in 16 months,& boy am I ready.

Had no idea you could play a major 5th with no pedals in first position 🤦🏼‍♂️ Thanks, knowing how to play each chord without moving the bar is huge

I love this stuff. I'm just a stupid millennial kid (dumb) and these videos really help me understand the instrument. Pedal steel doesn't seem to carry over from conventional six string guitar that I'm so accustomed to. You are awesome.

Thanks so much for checking out the video, Dave! The steel can be hard to relate to other instruments, but hopefully this video can help apply to other instruments as well. Also, cool car and guitars on your channel! Thanks again and keep picking. Aaron

@@DixieDee well not to disrespect Aaron and his steel picking channel (I love what he does) but I'd really highly recommend Paul Franklin's method if your trying to learn the pedal steel. I knew nothing 2 years ago and now I'm playing both tunings in a band setting and I really enjoy it. On top of all that I'm still not the smartest human being in the world lol

As some one who thinks in a number system, this is very helpful. never heard the term “Nashville number system” though. Just basic theory. Seems like as a pedal beginner, all I need is the AB pedals and one lever to start.
@SteelPicking
@SteelPicking 5 жыл бұрын
Marion there is so much music with those pedals. The number system is simply giving each scale degree a number. This make it simpler to transpose a song. C = 1 D = 2 a Dmin would be a 2min and so on . If you were in G than some one said play a 2min you would simple play an Amin and so on. Thanks sorry for the late response. Keep Picking! Aaron

Nashville number system is wonderful if you know basic music theory. You’ll pick it up super fast. I used it in jazz, but we never called it that.

@@SteelPicking aw thanks man... not sure if ya got the whole thing , but i did that with my step dad he was the one that got me started playing guitar when I was a kid.. he was actually staying in that retirement facility with Prostate cancer .. he wrote that song a LONG time ago and had quit playing for a lifetime I encouraged him to play again and told him that i would practice with him everyday, anyway the song is about weak kidneys as you probably heard, not sure if i had mentioned it, but he was also in a diaper with the people that he was playing for.. before he died he said Ronnie keep playing music, it is important .. and so that is exactly what I am doing I start every morning at 3 AM and quit about 7:30 ... sometimes i go back and play some more been doing it for 11 years now and wow what a difference .. makes me think.. wish i was this good when I was a pro, but then I HAD MY LOOKS TO FALL BACK THEN... heh heh anyway just wanted you to know that I really appreciate every one of your videos for some reason the more I play the more I feel like a sponge! once again thank you for all your effort.. Hey, Bob. Thanks for sharing. I checked out the video. This is a concept that Buddy Emmons used called crossover picking. I feel that is boils down to personal preference and at what level you would like to obtain or play at. I can see the merits of using this technique, and it never hurts to try different techniques or concepts. It's worth trying for sure. If it feels natural, then definitely try it. The main thing is to just play it however you feel is the best way to play. There isn't necessarily a wrong or right way to play it. Thanks for the great feedback and keep picking!
