Thank you so much for this information. We had an issue this summer with a parking lot & 2 boulders. Bent our front axle & lost 3 tires in between Trinidad Rocky Ford & finally winding up in Pueblo. No one had tires for the camper. We made it to Pueblo on a rim Friday night at 6. Pulling a 38ft 5th wheel & stopping in the first parking lot with ample room. Nothing open. But Monday morning found tires, and a wonderful small RV service just off 25 to the west & south. Been in business over 25yrs in AZ & Colorado. Got a rim & tire on & 7 miles down 25 spending the night in their parking lot waiting for new axle which came out of Denver Tuesday. They had fixed & back on the road by 2 o’clock. I did notify the police of our situation also the commercial business we were parked behind. Both were wonderful allowing us to stay. The repair was more then reasonable, great people.

We were the victim of Britt’s Diesel Repair in Bishop, Ca. three years ago. That put a total stop to our wintering in Arizona. 75 days in the shop with no repairs completed, they didn’t know what they were doing. We finally hauled the pu home to find out they had destroyed the engine. No more traveling for this old couple, we’ll just stay close to home and enjoy ourselves with what we are familiar with.

1. DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst): First Location: Closest to the engine, immediately after the turbocharger in the exhaust stream. Function: Converts carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbons (HC) into carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water (H₂O) through oxidation. Reduces some particulate matter (soot) and prepares the exhaust for downstream components. Key Role: Pre-treatment of exhaust gases. 2. DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter): Second Location: Downstream from the DOC. Function: Captures and stores particulate matter (soot) from the exhaust stream. Periodically undergoes regeneration to burn off accumulated soot, converting it to ash. Key Role: Physical filtration of soot particles to reduce visible black smoke. 3. SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction): Third Location: Downstream from the DPF. Function: Reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) by injecting Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) (a urea-water solution) into the exhaust. A chemical reaction converts NOx into nitrogen (N₂) and water (H₂O). Key Role: Reduces NOx emissions to meet stringent regulations.

@TilFurtherNotice23 күн бұрын
Not a silly question. The truck does automatic (passive) regenerations periodically. You can also perform static regenerations to manually try to burn off the soot. Neither one was working because over time the soot builds up too much for the regenerations to work. We are learning a lot from our commenters who know more than we do. So many issues with Ford, from engines to transmissions to a turbo self-disassembly on a friend's nearly-new truck while towing up into terrain, that I am done with them. I would only consider any newer diesel truck if it has an engine rebuilt correctly by Dave's in Utah--better than factory--and their maintenance recommendations have been followed to the letter.
@TilFurtherNoticeАй бұрын
We also blew the pipes off our turbo and rebuilt the right way. Other than that and the dpf issues it has been a great truck..knock on wood. Thanks for reaching out

@ReflectedMilesАй бұрын
@ Yes, but less catastrophic most of the time in my experience, except for some of the Dodge transmission issues as well. I really regret giving up my ‘04 GMC Duramax / Allison 3500. Easily the most reliable truck I ever had, and could have just been rebuilt multiple times if needed rather than paying far more for newer, supposedly improved trucks that just never were in the longer run. The CP4 pump debacle is all but a printed announcement that the industry needs better engineering work and parts that genuinely conform with that engineering.

Scott, how is your RA. Something I found after lots of reading on government site that has testing information is that sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is really good for inflammation. Also found that if your body acid level is high, it causes autoimmune diseases. Sodium bicarbonate taken in water can reduce acid. I had seen claims on KZbin about it, but wanted a source that was more trustworthy. So, I took half tsp of baking soda in a swallow of water for a couple weeks every morning. I felt noticeably better. I stopped until I could discuss with RA doctor. So, month and half ago, we had the conversation, and of course Dr’s can’t tell you to do it. Not a big pharma drug. But I was told, you know I can’t control what you do after you leave here. So, 1/2 tsp every morning for 6 weeks now. I reduced methotrexate from 7 per week to 1 one week and 2 the next. Probably totally stop at next Dr. appointment. I had wellness visit with another Dr. He agreed to have blood tests run. I asked for RF test. So far, no change. I’m thinking that might take a long haul. But he also did a C-Reactive Protein test, which is used to tell how much inflammation you are having. I thought that was a great set up the Ellison automatic with 71,000 miles on the truck, the transmission failed me. I do most of my maintenance work on this truck routine fluid changes I actually changed the fluid in the transmission sooner than I should have but it’s still failed me. I do not want a new truck because of the emissions that are on the trucks nowadays plus I don’t want to have a huge payment for a new truck so I decided to spend the $7000 for a new transmission the truck never gets ran in the winter. I get so many compliments when I go into campgrounds that they can’t get over how great shape this trucks in so I will keep putting Band-Aids on my truck. I love diesel’s and have always subscribed to one rule, give it an Italian tune up also know as drive it like you stole it. Diesel can’t be babied, run then hot and hard at times.
@TilFurtherNoticeАй бұрын
Thanks for your input! I’m probably a bit light on the acceleration and we also idle alot to keep air conditioner going when parked in the Florida heat.

The company Hot Shot’s Secret makes a number of excellent Diesel treatment products. Their “EDT - Every Day Treatment” is added to each tankful. It works excellent in our family’s Mercedes Sprinter. They make Diesel Extreme as a concentrated treatment for every so often deeper cleaning. These treatments clean, lubricate diesel injectors, remove water, and increase diesel cetane rating. Also, DEF has an expiration date, always use fresh, high quality DEF fluid in diesels that require it. One last observation, please tell me you weren’t “lane squatting” in the fast lanes while towing your camper. It seemed like most of the traffic was passing you in the slow lanes. Thanks. Best of luck with your travels.

How many times prior has the truck entered the Regen mode to burn up that suet? I have a RAM with 82K and only remember it doing it twice.

Thanks for your question. Don’t know first 50k miles because we bought used. Since then one computer initiated active regen and one manual regen at approximately 110k miles.

$12,000 !?!?!?! 😳 Should be a federal law that if a mechanic is going to convey information to you like that, they should be required to first ask you, "Are you on any type of heart medication?" I hated it when the semi tractors I used to drive had diesel engines needing DEF. Glad Scott got a second money-savings opinion on the fix for the truck. I'm working on a S'more casserole. On my fourth attempt. If I perfect it, I'll post the recipe.

When gov vehicles don't require them but ours do says a lot, they don't care about pollutants and neither does industry, ships or other country's for that matter. Delete them! I'm sorry our little trucks aren't making the impact they claim it's nothing more than a money grab so they can buy and sell clean air credits. Glad you got it fixed cheaper though always a good thing.

That's funny. Google Ram Cummins catastrophic engine failures and DEF system failures. Hint: They can all have issues and nowadays none of them are cheap. This is why I still drive my 2000 7.3 with 413,000 miles on it. I've replaced the transmission twice at roughly 4000.00 each time. Other than regular maintenance no other major expenses.
