Ya know Jamie - as much as I love all your empty street shots, I would love to see how you might handle a similar scene with a model in the middle of the street/driveway.

Good Question Michael, I always try so hard to shoot at a time when there are no people about, and I normally shoot alone, so I have plenty of time to think through my shots, I have never really thought of adding a model to the scene, something to consider 😀

Hello Jamie, first visit to your site and now subscribed. I live near Canterbury so recognise that street. I am just a beginner using Lightroom and although this video was quite involved, I did manage to follow what you were doing. Very impressed with the switch to Photoshop to remove the litter, I'll leave Photoshop till another day. I am going to check your video library to see if there are any beginner Lightroom tutorials. Thanks again really enjoyed watching what you did. 😄

Hi Alan, and welcome. Please have a look back at my earlier videos you will find easier videos, plus there are two specific to how to import and export from Lightroom, which may be a good starting point. Also, I would recommend this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maPYiKmud7GYj5I&ab_channel=JamieRMathlin. 😀

Hi Jamie. As always, this is really enjoyable... You do mention, about 15:30 into the video, that the point color tool would be very useful for those people that like to have selective colour in their B&W images. I am one of those people and can't actually figure out how that works in practice. I usually do this by desaturating all the colours, apart from the single colour that I want (for instance, a yellow cab in New York). I guess Point Color would be much more accurate? I wonder if you'd consider doing a short video showing how this can be done? I cannot find any videos on KZbin that demonstrate this which is really frustrating me!
@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin 8 ай бұрын
Good Points you raise, as you know the point color function is very new, so we have not had as much time to practice, however, to be honest, point color is just another way of adjusting the HSL and this we do have a lot of experience in doing. Personally, I like to increase the color saturation before going B&W and then make changes in the B&W color sliders, here is one of my videos where I do this :- kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJbMoXyQrZybetk&ab_channel=JamieRMathlin
@jezzadenton8854

Yup, saw that video. Definitely worth "over-Processing" the colours and contrast to give you a head start for B&W. Obviously the use of Silver Effects Pro would be a stage too far (i.e. it would remove the selected colour!) but I'll give it a go whilst I wait for a follow-along video...

I don't understand why you have altered the horizontal on the cathedral tower which is at an angle. That was ok. Now the roof on the building at the end of the street has a worse sloping roof! You should have levelled on that instead. Apart from demonstratin the new blur featuere the blur has spoilt the image. There in no point in trying to look at a blurred area. Also I cannot understand the facination in swiching from Lightroom to Photoshop and back again when everything can be done in ACR and PS. Nevertheless very interesting as usual

All of this is fine if you have a powerful enough Mac plus all the tools which a lot of us can’t really afford, so I think you have lost a lot of people with all this silver effect stuff, what I hope you have to take into account is the Mac which you and I both own, but you’re Mac is so much more powerful than that of many others let alone should others be using their PC’s
@ramigrafx

I can never understand the facination that folks have with Macs. Usually those who don't understand computers and just get them because of the snob value. My pc which I can build to any specification is far superior
@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin 9 ай бұрын
@@ramigrafx this is because you have obviously not used a Mac, I had the same feeling up until 2015, when somebody had a far lower spec Mac than my Windows Laptop sat next to me at a Photography Workshop, I was amased at the smoothness and performance of his machine, so I purchased a Mac through Apple on a 30 day trail and that was the last time I wanted to use a PC, If you have not used a Mac then you will not understand. It is not about benchmarks, it is about user experience, my MacBook Pro laptop can render a 1 hour 4k video in 8 mins in the background, while I continue to use Lightroom and Photoshop, and I have google open playing music through KZbin, and the Fan does not even come on and it remains a smooth experience, the battery lasts 16-18 hours, the speakers are as good as a small quaility hi-fi and the 16" rentina display is simply stunning. Some People may buy Mac's to be snobs, but I can assure you most buy them because of the user experience, everything works, you do not have virus', you do not need to find drivers for everything, they just work and they work very well. If you can borrow one to try, you will see what I mean 😀
@jamiermathlin

I understand the points you raise Simon, and to some degree you are correct. The disadvantage I have is that I have to keep things moving in the videos, I cannot expect people to wait for me, while if your machine is not as quick, you have time at home to be patient. The good thing is that companies like Apple are moving the industry forward, for so many years we were left at the mercy of Intel and Windows, where there was little innovation for almost 15 years. Since Apple introduced the 'M' Chips back in 2020, the computer industry has finally woken up, otherwise, they would have been left behind, the change has resulted in Intel and AMD making faster and faster chips, sadly at the cost of more power and heat, and not with the necessary efficiency, but they have moved forward. Now a £1000 Laptop is as fast as a 5-6 year old Xeon workstation, something that would have never been considered back then. An M2 15" MacBookAir purchased today is faster than almost any mainstream PC regardless of price if you are considering creation work, LR, PS and Video Editing, the battery lasts 16-18 hours and it does not burn your lap, in fact, it does not even have a fan ! if you want to play games then you have to go Windows if you want to do anything else it is Mac. 😀
@ramigrafx
@ramigrafx 9 ай бұрын
Well arn't you lucky. You can buy whatever Mac you want at an inflated price but I can build what I want at a higher spec and lower price@@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin
@jamiermathlin 9 ай бұрын
@@ramigrafx sorry, I do not wish for you to get upset, it was just a discussion about modern hardware available, PCs and Macs each have there advantages and disadvantages, this is why I have both at home, all I was saying was when it comes to LR, PS and Video Editing the Mac provides a better user experiance, based on my experience, having a laptop where the battery lasts 16-18 hours and very high performance, while staying cool is seen by many as an advantage. If you are happy with your PCs, it is not for me to argue with you, that is completely your choice, all I was suggesting was that you most likely have not witnessed the perfomance / user experience of a Mac, so it can be hard to compare... and for reference I am a Consultant Electrical Engineer by profession with 40 years exoerience, I have a very good understanding of how computers works, down to the lithography used to lay down the transistors onto the silicon, I have specified and built many computers over time, the flexibility offered by PCs for construction is their main advantage, however the x86 architecture is getting rather long-in-the-tooth now, and ARM is clearly the future, Intel and AMD will need to move to ARM based architecture soon if they want to keep up to date. Happy to continue with a happy informative discussion 😀
