This war would have ended long ago in Russia's favor if it were not for drones which has slowed down infantry and mechanized vehicles as well. Russia's advantages in manpower, artillery (a lot cheaper), air power and the introduction of FABS are simply insurmountable for Ukraine.

something is wrong, Ukraine either has no troops in new york/toretsk or they are just refusing to fight. it is unlikely that with fortifications built for more than 10 years, they would give up these positions. so, it is more likely that they rely on these fortifications and stationed very few troops there, and at the same time, the troops ran away the moment they saw the russians coming in, rendering the entire fortification system useless and free to grab for the russians. This is the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end

This is what happens with wars of attrition. Likely whatever forces could be "spared" were sent as reinforcements to Vovchansk. ( which is the entire point of the Russian operation there ) The ukrops are *very good* at making the same mistakes the Germans did in WW2 when facing the Soviets. They try and hold all the territory they can, regardless of how useless it is or not.

Fun fact: FAB stands for Fugasnaya Aviatsionaya Bomba or high explosive aerial bomb developed in the 1940s and early 1950s with first combat use against German forces in Konigsberg. In 2022, Russia started to attached simple wings to the bomb so it could glide over long distances to enable their aircraft to better avoid Ukraine’s air defenses. Essentially old technology improvised and innovated for the occasion

It appears the Russians are succeeding in shortening the front line, thus having enough manpower to open up new areas. On conscription I'd like to hear analysis of Ukraine's demography. There has been a steep decline in each new young age cohort in Ukraine since the end of the USSR. Since the war Ukraine has emptied out of young families, presumably biting in to the cohort becoming 18 in the last 2 years. This helps explain why the older age groups of men have been called up. Traditionally the young are thrown into war. This conserves the skills and knowledge base of the older population who post war can train in those coming of age. In terms of future economy Ukraine seems to be in a mode of self destruction.

Nothing to laugh about really, both sides have their propagandists. And both sides clearly work in close cooperation with their respective 'HQ's'. With geo located footage these days, both sides keep each other in check and with a max difference of 36h the general public can get a pretty accurate idea of how the front is evolving. The laughable part is MSM still trying to bring lobsided reporting, they are months behind the reality of the front. All I see is droves and droves of young (and not so young) men dying on both sides because politicians dont care about frontline realities but rather go on 'opinion polls' bettering their own carreers'.

Very far still in proportions to the total territory. Fighting happens in the militarized zone, which has been heavily mined and fortified since 2014, which makes progress slow, but meaningfull, because beyond the first 50KM, the terrain is significantly more open
