What's up with the drummer speeding up and destroying the song in basically every live version I see of this? Fucking ridiculous. I'd fire my drummer for this crap. It's supposed to be a chill song. Being uptempo ruins it completely.

Because it was almost always played late in the set during that era, if not dead last. And, unless you're using clicks (which was rare in the 90s), you tend to speed up as a show progresses, especially a band like this. Also: Art didn't mind it being played fast.
