The 3.0 CSi formed part of the E9 generation of BMWs. The generation started in 1968 as a continuation of the Neue Klasse (New Class) of models. While those were powered by four cylinder 2000 C and CS engines, the E9 had the engine bay large enough to fit the new straight six M30 units. The 2800 first launched, followed by the 3.0 CS and CSi in 1971. These were in production until 1975. The famous 3.0 CSL also appeared during this period.
The Majorette casting was produced for four years in the seventies. It could be found in a wide array of body colours, window colours and wheel types. However, like a lot of the metallic Majorettes of the time, as soon as a bit of a scratch from play wear appears, the rest of the paint follows suit and flakes away.
During my restoration, I thought that my paint match was one of my most accurate yet, particularly for a layered clear over silver finish. There was thankfully little else wrong with my example but that didn't stop me from trying to polish and perfect that baseplate.
