I have seen a lot of fans, I have even made a few and so have you. But today is a bit special, we are going to test out some of the BEST cooling fans on the market to see what fan is really the best of the best. @@matasa7463 I mean of course anything electronic can fail, but case fans are about the last component I would worry about. They are mechanically extremely simple, and they're also very cheap per unit in case the lighting strikes, so to speak. Good customer service on more serious components like GPU or CPU, RAM, SSD, etc is very valuable. But for fans, i couldn't care less. As long as I receive the product I buy, and it's not broken from factory, that's enough.

Yeah I noticed the blade clearance looked bigger on the Typhoon than the other fans. But maybe their material stretches more? Or I missed a detail, this video was THICK on the info.

Gral Nrath's assumption is correct, the material stretches too much. Impossible to improve blade tip clearance without using LCP or you get resonance issues (weird specific rpm-range noise) like the Arctic P12/P14 (850-1150RPM) have. Heck even with LCP u can get it like the Scythe Wonder Snail. Bearing/motor def needs to be different, the double-ball bearing is why Gentle Typhoon is useless (a huge chunk of the world population cannot tolerate the grind noise).

I can confidently say (after watching more fan comparison videos than I honestly care to admit) that it would come in 3rd place just behind the gentle typhoon in pretty much every test. But the fact you can get 5 of them for the price of 1 of the others will always make it the best fan on the market imo.

I tested the P12 extensively and it won't reach the performance of any of these other fans because of its low top speed. I measured the P12 top speed at roughly 1600rpm, which is not even close to the likes of the A12x25 (2000rpm) or the Gentle Typhoon (2150rpm). One thing going for the P12 is that it is very good value for money.

I gave them another chance a few years later, and it had its hardwired rear I/O audio backwards, so left comes out right and right comes out left. I tried to RMA it, but they refused and said to send it back to the store I bought it from, which was NCIX which was going out of business so I was out of luck. The ASUS monitor I bought from NCIX, which had a 36 month warranty, also died just over a year after I bought it, they told me to send it back to the company I bought it from, I told them NCIX went out of business, and they refused to help.

Today they have more competitors (basically copies of their design) but are still excellent. It is funny because Nidec Servo is a VERY LARGE company that basically doesn't care about the domestic market and the only reason we had those available was because Scythe made a large order from Nidec. And the one they made(scythe) to replace the Gentle Typhoon when whatever happened that Nidec decided to not renew or ask for more money or whatever, sucked in comparison.

I bought Noctua NH-D14, I think in 2011. It was the first version with fans having 3 pin with PWM adapter / splitter. Fans still work without a single problem. The thing about Noctua is, you pay premium that will last you for years to come.

For those of you learning about fans, the Arctic P12 often comes up in "best" lists because it is like 90% as good as premium fans for about 25% of the price of a premium fan. They are the go-to budget option.

Arctic are a great budget option, basically the king of performance per dollar.. but there's one thing that you get from the premium options which you don't get from Arctic - durability I see noctua and scythe fans running for over a decade and still performing great, whereas my old Arctic fans were pretty much all dead within 4 years. That said I could have replaced them all twice over and still come out cheaper in the end, so for most people that's still probably worth it

This was sick, very much appreciate the work that went into this video! There is a reason that the GT's were undisputed king for waterloops back in the day, and it seems they still hold up to this day, Dazmode was selling all black models at one point as well, plus some other companies made clones and copies of them. But one thing still puzzles me: you choose to normalize noise, and then compare the CFMs, but I would tend to think that the ultimate useful comparison would be to do the reverse... Let's say that I have a CPU that needs to run at X °C, then I need a fan that produces Y CFM... almost every fan should be able to produce this cooling, but the best fan is just the one that produces the less noise for this air output. And since not everybody have a good mental representation of the dB scale, my dreamed comparison would be to normalize all fan to a given CFM sufficient to cool a CPU (core I7 or similar), and then provide us with a recording of the noise, using the same mike gain for all fans. And just a shout-out, just for the fun: Why is the fan industry is using the cfm unit all over the world? I mean, there is the minute that is still in common with the metric system! Couldn't they use another time unit? I could suggest something alike the imperial spanner system, eg: 1/16th of a solar month...

The Gentle Typhoon has actually received several revisions since it was initially released in **2007** and was available from a company called Dynetics, it was not initially released in 2009. The first two fans released were the D0925 and D1225. It was updated for Scythe in **2008** with the 'industrial' version D1225C_hi. Scythe released the 92mm, 120mm, and 120mm_hi versions with several RPM ranges. The 120mm variant went as low as 1150RPM, with the 120mm_hi variant going all the way up to 4250RPM. The most recent update to the D1225 is the D1225C12B6 - which is the black variant made for DarkSide Computers.

For those of you asking about Noctua’s 3000rpm fans, according to their own data, the nf-f12x25 ippc 3000 rpm will move 109.88 cfm of air at 43.5 dba at full tilt. The nf-a14 ippc 3000 rpm will move 158.5 cfm at 41.3 dba at full tilt. Noctua still hasn’t released the a12x25 ippc variant yet for what I assume is the same reason they haven’t released the Chronomax.

Well they are quiet, I bought more expensive fans before that made noise, or sounded unpleasant. I was using the F14's but I've gotten a bequiet case and it came with fans. One other thing is the Artic fans PWM never resulted in the chirping sound I've seen happen on other fans

I have 10 BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 on my O11D XL. 7 as case fans running at 700-1200 rpm depending on the load, and 3 for the AIO ( Liquid Freezer II 360). And they are so good. They're not cheap i know, but man they look nice, perform very well and are so quiet. I'm gonna use them in a custom loop soon

I would like to see a comparison with Arctic p12s. You can get a 5 pack of them for like $30 or the price of one Noctua or T30. Going with the p12s would save you $120 over going with 5 Noctuas which would be enough to jump up a tier of GPU or CPU. The p12s are daisy chainable as well which is really nice especially for itx builds.

i was running 17 noctua industrials on my 4 radiator setup build and switched them with the t30's and they run everything approximately 2C cooler than the noctuas at 500 less rpm at ca 1500rpm capped while being way quieter, haven't tested them at 3000 yet but i bet it will be impressive but loud

@@CenPapi Ah, damn. Well, that's kind of a problem. That's the entire point behind high static pressure fan designs ─ better push than pull. I also suspect that's where the Phanteks fan will fall down, in keeping with reviews of Corsair's fairly similar mag-lev fan.

You're right, he didn't do a push configuration. I could be wrong, but I think the reason he didn't do that is because he doesn't have the right measurement tools to get the PQ curve of the fans. To date the GT fans perform the best in noise normalized pressure tests. Martin's Liquid Lab (respected water cooling guru) did tests years ago on this, alas no one has been able to replicate what he's done.

@@pkpnyt4711 Right equipment? To do what? He already has the basic gear to do a minimum standard test already on display in this video. The point to HSP fans is to push through a rad or against/around objects like HDDs. They don't excel at pulling. Even Cooler Master got kinda spiky about that issue with their initial MasterFan marketing. So, if they're all run at max RPM, then at a noise normalized standard, the end result will still be relatively serviceable data. It's not like barometric pressure numbers will matter if two otherwise equally performing fans can't get the air out the other side of the rad as one another. It's strictly about how much air gets through and out. Granted, I would love to see standardized content on pressure differences between case mounted fans. But, that requires a lot of preset conditions and seems to be out of the cards for reviewers right now. I only remember that Linus Tech Tips did a bit a few years ago where they determined pressurized cases were the best config, and I _think_ Gamers Nexus has fan testing inbound but probably not until they get their new location built.

Gentle Typhoon 2150 is now being sold under the name XPG Vento Pro 120 pwm. I love these fans since I have been using Gentle Typhoon 1850 by NIDEC SERVO 6 years ago and still running inside my built. Would like to see the test for the new Gentle Typhoon under XPG for their performance comparing with their older brother.

I’ve been researching High static pressure fans for month now. I narrowed it down to the Thermaltake B-12 & the Scythe Wonder snail 300-2400 rpm for my Scythe NInja 4 in a push/pull config.(noctua is off the table because of price). I decided on Scythe wonder snail 300 - 2400 rpm even though I’ve heard some complaints about resonance @ certain rpm. I don’t care if my system sounds like a Jet engine for occasional productivity but I want silence for mundane net usage & gaming. 👌

Please take the Wonder Snail and Slap it together with the Gentle typhoon. Such a counterrotating setup should make for some interesting static pressure tests.

If live to see you take a look at the Noiseblocker eLoop, especially the airflow pattern with smoke. It is a somewhat unique fan blade design that's actually on production.

nfm if you want just raw cooling performance. I had several of them they have massive solid metal hubs and their largest 120 mm fan was 2x thicker than the t30. Those fans on nfms data sheet gave a rated cfm of over 320 cfm. When you air cool a case you want the highest cfm possible and the lowest case air volume possible to get the most possible air changes in 1 minute. On one of my builds i started with a full tower case and 4 of the massive nfm 120 fans each at 320+ cfm. That gave me a total rated cfm of 1280 cfm of air flow. 2 intakes 2 exhaust. So with a large enough volume it would be 640 cfm. A case obviously wont ever give you the volume needed for that but with losses and the fans maybe not running at spec the real airflow would be closer to 1k cfm. Raw space side the case in cubic feet would be around 4 so 1k/4 would give you 250 air changes a minute. I did not stop there how ever with my build. I built ducts and baffles to direct the airflow and reduce over all case air volume. I took all the measurements needed to get very close to the total air volume of my case of .9 feet assuming i messed up a bit we will call it 1 cubic foot. That in the end gave me something around 1k air changes per minute. I did not include the cfm of the psu fan. I also did not account for the foam board i used flexing from the high pressure created by 640 cfm being pumped in to the case. Was it loud ? Sure was it a very cool running computer oh hell yes lol

I have an AC Finity 6 inch inline fan in route to my office! It will cool my computer and heat exchanger (radiator) and also I have a merv 13 filter at the start of the ducting loop. My computer stays completely dust free and so does my house. 42c system temperature all day in the summer.

According to Noctua, the nf-f12x25 ippc 3000 rpm will move 109.88 cfm of air at 43.5 dba at full tilt. The nf-a14 ippc 3000 rpm will move 158.5 cfm at 41.3 dba at full tilt. Noctua still hasn’t released the a12x25 ippc variant yet for what I assume is the same reason they haven’t released the Chronomax.

I would actually like to see this T30 vs the Noctua NF-F12 as this is also a 3000 RPM fan that is said to have a max dBA of 43.5. This fan would be more of a direct comparison in noise, performance and cost.

A-Data is making a refresh of the GentleTyphoon with Nidec. A-Data XPG VENTO PRO 120. Looks the same but with black cables for the same price as the original.

The T30 has solid advantages if you have the depth for it. Even though its a 16.67% increase in depth of the overall fan, its closer to a 27.78% increase in fan blade depth. And as the saying goes, there is no replacement for displacement. Still probably would go for Arctic P12's because I'm cheap. But if they Have the T30's on a case, well I'd definitely keep them.

Noctua is a baby compared to the Japanese giant Nidec. Nidec used to make most electric motors used in hard-drives and many other high-tech electric motors in various fields. Awesome video, btw.
