In the Warboss novel, there is a Blood Axe called Da Genrul, and he keeps a caged human officer as a pet. He has given his ladz explicit instructions to not harm or kill this prisoner, and even lets him out for exercise. However, the officer is constantly humiliated, and kept to give tactical information to the orks that massacred his homeworld. The orks don't fight him, if he tries to run away, they catch him. If he tries to start a fight in the hopes of goading an ork to kill him, they just smear his face with shit. The novel has some bits from his perspective, and it's just fucking tragic. He wishes he was like Castellan Creed or Ciaphas Cain and tries to be a hero, but the orks broke him mentally, and he is stuck as their prisoner, a literal tool against everything he holds dear. The Tau are pretty much the best expanding Empire you want to run into because the actually give you an option. Unlike the Imperium which will just virus bomb your world clean if they don't like you. The Tau are basically super advanced Roman's in this respect, and their expansion generally benefits the people included in it. The only known attempt to diplomatically bring a Xenos culture into the Imperium was Horus trying to bring the Interex into the Imperium, something that the Emperor Himself probably would not have been on board with, and we all know how that ended despite the Interex not really doing anything wrong (they were trying to prevent Chaos from influencing their society whilst Chaos affiliated Imperials like Erebus were manipulating event's).

I remember a quote from one of the old eldar codices(3rd 4th or 5th, not sure) in the entry for ulthwe craftworld(eldrad's home, old eldrad was quite the ass, newer one is still one to a lesser degree), the quote goes "he who sees his own doom can avoid it. He who sees tge doom of others can deliver it". Fits the chosen atrocity.

The new lore for the Neurotyrant is pretty insidious. It talks to people in their heads and convinces them to make bad decisions, preying upon their insecurities or vanity and then assaults them with horrifying visions once they've fallen into their trap.

To be fair to the eldar, how many humans would sacrifice themselves for them? When the imperium constantly chants "suffer not the xenos to live" it's a bit bad faith to expect them to protect humans out of the kindness of their heart.
@deltatea3192 Жыл бұрын
On the subject of Gazgul, to quote many others "How is that my problem?" Yes the Eldar created the situation that led to Gazgul. On the surface an atrocity. But when you look at it from the Eldar side, they are a dying species. Literally every member is nearly irreplaceable. Meanwhile you have humans who are near limitless in number. What are the lives of a few billion infinitely replaceable beings to a few thousand irreplaceable ones? Were the roles reversed the Imperium and likely the Emperor himself would sacrifice the Eldar in a heartbeat with no further thoughts given. In effect, Gazgul is neither good nor bad. There is no morality to be considered with it. Arguably setting up Gazgul's rise was the right thing to do.

I’d argue the imperial truth/cult of the emperor is the worst atrocity. Or furthermore the atrocities committed out in their name. That’s like the basic groundwork for the systemic brutality that is the imperium. It’s the justification for what they see as righteous genocide.

I would argue that for the Eldar, attacking Angron and lowkey being responsible for him being the Chaos' greatest champion would be much worse. But in Angron's case, there were so many decisions that could have saved him yet made him fall even deeper that blaming it just on the Eldar would be kinda unfair. But yeah, they were the first stepping stone on his path to damnation
@AveSicarius Жыл бұрын
The Emperor was the lynchpin there, not the Eldar, Angron could have been saved by allowing him to take his world or ended because of the Butcher's Nails, the Emperor chose the absolute worst option instead.

@@AveSicarius Oh, I agree that the Emperor being a dickhead and straight up kidnapping angron was the last straw. I am just saying that if the Nukrean's adopted Angron and did not implant him with the butcher's nails, he would not only prolly rule that world, but could also supply the imperium with good warriors once the Emperor arrived. The shadow crusade deserves an honorable mention (if we're counting heresy era). Hundreds of worlds burning for the sake of causing as much suffering as possible. Logar is doing it to ensure that his brother, Angron, becomes immortal - knowing full well it meant Angron would never be free of their bite. Outside of Calth and the warpstorm there was no other reason for the crusade (and Calth was meant to purge the word bearers of their less useful members). Logar doesn’t even try to disguise it. When asked what the point his, he says the song - a symphony of screaming and suffering.
@reillycurran8508 Жыл бұрын
Worth pointing out that the mere veneration of chaos includes one rule, an unwilling sacrifice is more powerful than a willing sacrifice, ans a sacrificial betrayal is more powerful than a random sacrificial killing. It's actually a big part of why Chaos was so interested in turning space marines to their cause, because every marine on marine kill represents a sacrifice on a scale big enough to give them all a serious stiff one on how dramatic and traitorous and atrocious it is just inherently. So yeah, any time you see a word bearer making sacrificial offerings, odds are good it was someone who A) really did not want to be a sacrificial offering, and B) had actually come to trust the specific word bearer performing the sacrifice wouldn't do it to them. Chaos doesn't just commit atrocity in its own worship, it deliberately cultivates it and compounds it to draw even more power out of it.
