I kind of like the blind optimism when it comes to their salary hopes but at the same time I think universities in general over promise and underdeliver. If you want to make 6 figures out of college, it won't be involving social work and or a psychology degree.

@@BTrain-is8ch It's not literally promises. It's statics they use to say the average graduate make x after graduation. But it doesn't factor in major or a number of other things.

@@toddsmith1731 I genuinely wonder whether there are truly millions of people that are so dim that they're running off to these institutions having done no real research on what their earning prospects might be post graduation. People claiming to have been mislead seems like a gigantic copout in an age where compensation data is available from government sources and private sources for anyone willing to spend a couple bucks and a bit of time. You'd think checking the BLS' data and spending $100 bucks gathering salary reports would be a no brainer compared to going through four years of school only to find that human performance majors make 1/3 of your expectations... If those people really do exist the problem isn't affordability. It's stopping those people from stepping foot on campus in the first place.

Social workers can certainly make 6 figures with a master's degree and a few years of experience. The one who wants to open her own practice has exactly the right thing in mind.

When I graduated with that degree in 2015 my first job was 45k. Worked my way up over a couple years and made 50k. I said f this went into working for a major insurance company. Made 65k my first year. Had a big promotion and went to 80k. Transitioned to tech and making even more and work literally like 30 hours a week and sit on my behind watching KZbin videos and it’s salary plus bonuses which is even better.

@@rtlau-mk4di no I work in tech sales. People freak out when they think sales usually but I don’t really sell anything. It’s software that companies need. I just explain what it is and how much it would cost. They’ll send me an email alittle later and I’ll send them an agreement to sign and that’s it lol

The U.S. doesn't need anymore lawyers. Lawyers mostly bring fighting and drama into the world. We need engineers, doctors, nurses, military enlisted service members, teachers, and trade skill workers (HVAC, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc.). Everyone wants a prestigious job that makes a lot of money, but the U.S. can't function if everyone is lawyers. We already have more lawyers in total and per capita than any other country in the world. Of all the countries in the world, the last thing we need is more lawyers.

I’m an engineering physics major in a cybersecurity certification program hoping for 60-70k. Part of me hopes these guys are right and I’m wrong, but surely their predictions will grow into unmet expectations by a hugeee margin.

Omg even top law firm don’t pay that much. My friends who went to top5 law school has starting salary of 160-180k. And they had perfect GPA and 175 LSAT

In the US you need a Master's degree to practice Law. Most people take relate fields for their Bachelor's like Philosophy or Political Science to prepare for the entrance exam.

In the U.S you have to have an undergrad degree FIRST before attending law school. You can't attend law school straight outta high school.

Being of age and how to manage the sequence of returns in those early periods is what seems quite scary in the current market. The market is never a loser in a twenty year cycle, but the 2000s decade scenario scares me and could really disrupt my retirement. When you are no longer accumulating but withdrawing its hard to be anything but cautious.

The biggest mistake you can make when investing is to think that you are smarter than the market. It’s almost impossible to time the consistently, you will miss out on great opportunities if you do this, simply DCA into high conviction stocks and let your position grow.

I don't think everyone should go into stem. We still need sociology/history majors but I think those degrees should be coupled with something that serves industry - Like Business, Computer science, product management, Non-profit management, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources etc. My school offered a business program for social science majors

It's a historical black college, before schools were desegrated african americans could not go to regular universities so HBCU's were created
