Agreed. but ngl, Thames TV is like one of the YT channels that have like the most rare footage and reporting of one of the most, let's say 'not usually talked about' wars, such as Lebanon(even pre-civil war) and Cyprus itself.

The invation was happening on 5.20..and the Cyptiots army ..starded to react ..at 8.30... ALSO ,..i must mention ,that since from the 23 of july till the 14 of Augast ..during the. " case fire " agreement , the Turks ,unload their 35.000 troops ,and 150-200 tanks and armour vehicles , .. well ,after that ..NOBODY could stop them ..! from GREECE , in that time we had only a reinforcement of a commando unit ( ..most propably., they came by their oun risk ).. and ..THREATS ..for NOT to bothered them ( the Turks ) doing so..

[Pre-Chorus] Tell me, is it possible to live far away from love? What can I do abroad all alone? Tell me, is it possible to live far away from love? @@Alexander29854 on the contrary, Canadian "Peacekeepers" stopped the Turks from taking over the entire island. They occupied that airport to prevent its capture as Turks weren't insane enough to attack UN troops. If that airport had fallen to Turks, they would have brought their jets there and have total air superiority over the Cyprus. Distance between Turkey and Cyprus was the only thing that prevented the Turks from bombing Greeks to oblivion.

My grandfather was on the opposing side, he told me many of the combat losses of the turks where like zombies and where on drugs and where most likely criminals that the turks allowed to serve the army instead of jail time. There is more proof of that because turkish “soldiers” executed a greek Cypriot artist because they where demanding money from him. Also there is a report that the turks took almost 100 pow and killed them all on a beach

as someone who is half turkish and half greek cyp it’s more of a bitter feeling especially when i did research on the background of the song. my dad moved to australia (where i currently live) in the 70s to escape the war, as my uncles stayed and fought. i am often made fun of and shamed when i have to tell other turks i am half greek and they frown upon it and personally for me it’s childish. it was not something we started. it was also a very long time ago. nonetheless it has not stopped me from embracing my greek culture, i have many friends who are greek and turkish myself. and to my brothers on both sides. do not anger each other with bitter, sorrow memories. we are very alike in many ways.
