Majrooh Sultanpuri on S. D Burman (Loosely translated from Urdu): In my life there have been two music directors who have played very important role for me to become a songwriter. When I came in the film industry, the first one was Naushad Sahib. After that, when I became known as the topmost songwriter, my golden period started with S.D. Burman Sahib. With Burman sahib, I was able to carry out unusual experiments, in form and in writing. I would experiment with new styles due to his meter and his help, which were not possible before him. I don’t think I would ever be able to repeat them anytime in future. He used to call me Muzrooh instead of Majrooh. Now that he is no more, who will call me, “Muzrooh, Pancham is like your son. Look after him.” I would say, “Dada, no need to remind me. He is my child. I will definitely look after him.’ In a true sense, he was our guardian who would always guide us. We will miss his kindness and support. We have lost a very big treasure of our life. May god give us strength to bear this loss during our life-time. And like We have discussed over some of videos here, my grandpa was in a friendship with Naushad ji (even attended his wedding in 1945), and used to admire SD Dada- Yuvraj (Tripura ke). He used to enjoy music with Dumrao Maharaj specially K.L.Saigal Sahab & Akhtaribai (Begum Akhtar). SD Dada was more reserved. When he offered paan to someone, it meant Dada ne respect dia. My dadu ate twice his paans🙏😊 Naushad ji ke sath to unki purani gehri dosti thi. I miss my grandpa, his talks of our old Kashmiri days (Gilgit side of our forefathers) and his greatest mistake-he couldn't meet Rafi Sahab ever.

His sharing paan with someone was considered reward for that person. Lata has said that when she sang well for him, he would give her a paan.
