The aggravating thing about all of this is that Miyazaki was working on Bloodborne at the time of DS2 as was practically uninvolved, so exactly none of anything in DS2 that wasn't in DS1 can be blamed on Miyazaki. It's part of the reason why the mechanics are different and there's only one ending

It wasnt even Tanimura's or his collaborator's fault neither, the little involvement Miyazaki had in the project meant they had to interpret what they got told by him and he did not correct them when he could have had, but he had little involvement not because he was forced to but because he didnt and doesnt want to make sequels and did not want to stay behind DS2 either, they were also very unexperienced at the time as it was their first project to direct, so faulting them for the problem the game had is just unfair. Ps. There is only one ending in the original DS2, Scholar of the first sin changed that

I play offline normally so my co-op and invasion experience is limited to ai. I really like having a (computer controlled) friend join me in bosses though, even if their value is mostly as a meatshield

Dark Souls 2 is my favorite of the 3. The story is the most conherent and interesting of them. Duel weilding is fun. Whips and fisticuffs are good. Its weird for the sake of being weird You get to become a king, even if no one reapects your authority. The DLC are amazing. Sure it might not be the best, but it is shit on way more than it deserves.

It deserves every bit of it. Saying the DLC are amazing when Frozen Outskirts, Iron Passage, and the entirety of Shulva exist is laughable.

Yeah I had a lot of fun with lightning bolt in DS2... right until it was nerfed into the ground. I hear it's better balanced in Scholar, but I've never tried it myself.

It usually requires a hefty investment in faith and a good talisman fully upgraded to even begin to showcase a shadow of its former self. The hardest nerf last I checked was the reduction to like 3-4 charges per spell slot. Honestly, had they bumped it back to 10, or even up to 15 with how nerfed it is, the spell would at least FEEL like it has a function as a ranged poke. It really never recovered after they broke both it's knees then elbows, and left it with a concussion

When I see complaints about DS2, are usually the later version, which adds more enemies and unfairness... As it's supposed to be for players who already knows the original layout. Even tho I lovegames getting harder, I recommend ya'll new people or who only played SOTFS, to get the vanilla experience... And for the one who complains about enemies or the Iron Keep... Did you play the other Souls game and magical areas?

dark souls 2 is still the worst game in the franchise by a longshot. There is a world of a difference between a "hard but fair game" and a "hard because hard game". Dark souls 2 was frustrating by design and still is. I mean, it is so badly coded that to this day there are some mechanics that are still not properly understood. Not because it is smart, but because the code is horrendeous.
