Mike, thanks for the great video! Makarov pistol is a very dangerous weapon in melee. The Soviet policemen had a special reception - the first shot should be warning, it was not done in the air, but at the foot of the villain. a spherical bullet having a high kinetic energy bounced off a hard surface into the stomach of a criminal. Sorry for the automatic translation))))

I've had this exact same gun for about fifteen years and I like it. It's much nicer than you'd expect of a soviet made pistol. I always assumed that was because they copied it from the Germans. The sights suck, but I figure that's because the manufacturer assumed the standard target would be the back of a dissidents head at two inches.

My Russian version is easy to carry around the property and works well (accuracy) at short range on decapitating rattlesnakes that get a bit to close to the house. I use a Hornady XTP bullet. One bad year I killed 4 within 50' of our front door. A shovel or hoe works better but is harder to pack. Thank you for the excellent videos.

@Legitpenguins996 жыл бұрын
@Peter Connell not necessarily. Pistols make up a small, small minority of casualties on a battlefield. That said for someone who puts 1000s of rounds in training through their pistol and is proficient, your absolutely right but the average Russian soldier probably practices a tenth of that with a pistol making the much lesser recoil a huge increase in the chance you'll even hit the enemy
@exexpat115 жыл бұрын
The Tokarev was more dangerous to the user than the person being shot at. No safety and a hair trigger. If you want an auto in that round I suggest the CZ-52. Strange gun but is the better of the two.

I like my makarov . You will be hard pressed to find a more durable, reliable, accurate and affordable pistol. It makes a great carry pistol as well.

Have you shot .380 bullets from your Makarov?
@exexpat115 жыл бұрын
@@pedromeza2398 You can shoot 380 out of a 9mm Makarov and have terrible accuracy as the 380 is smaller than the Makarov round. If you shoot 9mm Makarov out of a 380 barreled gun you will have a very bad day that ends in a bulged barrel and metal fragments flying around that used to be your gun.

It has a very noticeable kick over a 380 , the Mak is at least in a plus P category as far as power over a 380.
@exexpat115 жыл бұрын
There are only three downsides to the Makarov. Heel Magazine Release (some solve this by placing a split/keyring on the release - still not a speed reloader), the sights are very spartan, and the factory grips (Pierce used to make some nice grippy rubber ones). Very accurate fixed barrel and a little more punchy than a 380. It points really well and at reasonable handgun distances; it is point and hit type gun. The firing pin is a free floating triangular pointy piece of metal (someone was making titanium ones at one time). Safety/Decocker and Hammer is actually case hardened. Old Surplus Ru "Brown Box" ammo was poorly crimped so sometimes bullets would fall out of the brass or steel clear lacquered cases. Cor-bon is a good round. During the Russian Occupation of Afghanistan they were known as "suicide guns" as the Russians took little faith in pistols (any pistol) as an offensive or defensive weapon. Officers were told to use them on themselves rather than be caught by the Taliban and be tortured to death. A favorite weapon of NKVD/KGB/Bulgarian Secret Police/Romanian Secret Police/DDR Statsi. Best to worst. 1. East German 2. Russian 3. Bulgarian 4. Romanian 5. China 6. North Korea.

I had an E German Makarov long ago. Loved the pistol but I believe there's one idiosyncrasy you didn't mention. It's free floating firing pin makes it unhealthy to drop the gun.
@antonarset4 жыл бұрын
The magazine release is made in such manner where it doesnt lock the magazin, but pushes it. I think there is no other weapon with such "lock". You can easy release it pressing the bottom on your belt for example, but can be done accidentally if you put the gun on something, a car for example, it will unlock itself. Also if you put the magazine hard, like a hit in the gun, it will put the first round into the chamber on its own. Another specific thing is that if you put more oil in it it may start shooting in auto mode and it is totally uncontrollable. Also it can shoot with rounds for Stechkin which have much more power but are painful to shoot, I never did on my own but saw that and the man who shoot with them was very angry. I thing that I dont like is the small extractor hole on the top right, once a round got stick there and you can not just pull it out, must get out the magazine and push it down. Makarov here in Bulgaria is favorite for many people, because it is very cheap, about 100 euro, compared to imported weapons it is almost free. For example Smith and Wesson revolver is about 1500 euro, so most of the people who have the right to buy firearm can not allow that.
