Everything you do is aesthetically pleasing-- it's part of your art style. Not only do you present quality content, but your videos are clean and crisp, you yourself look clean and well kept, your voice sounds amazing, a brilliant smile, choice of background, lighting, etc. You put a lot of effort into every video and I greatly appreciate. I'm happy I found you. And yes I'm doing well. :)

Great video! Yes I agree: the Izotope plugins are fantastic. Of course there is much more to a microphone than just EQ. With a cheap mic you have issues like noise, resonances, distortion, etc... and if you apply extreme EQ to make it sound top professional, you get unwanted harshness and very piercing "s" sounds. The latter can be fixed with a nice de-esser plugin. Another issue is pop noises (p-sounds), which should be fixed with a mechanical pop filter. These are hard to fix in post, since you can only filter out the low end, but you can't fix the distortion it causes. I also recommend a nice compressor for the voice over to smooth out the dynamics. A stock plugin is just fine, but of course a great 3rd party plugin, such as the ones for example by Waves, Melda, FabFilter or Izotope are ace). I do this stuff for a living and there is still nothing like a good microphone and preamp, and a good sound technician, but yes: Izotope plugins are excellent and can do wonders.

One of the most important videos you've ever made
@j.vonhogen96503 жыл бұрын
The Zoom mic featured in this video is actually much better than you'd think. It records in 24 bit at high sample rates. I have two of those recorders and I have used them many times in combination with a set of excellent DPA binaural mics (the Zoom recorder has an external mic input). I always got amazing results, especially when recording chamber music and grand pianos. By the way, there is a rather complicated method to use the matching EQ data as an impulse response and then apply it as IR reverb in a professional sequencer. It magically changes the entire sound output, not just the reverb. This technique is used in high end sample libraries to 'generate' sordino strings samples from regular strings sample sources. It saves the sample library producer thousands of hours of recording sessions and editing, and the results are just as good as recorded sordino strings for most if not all users. Thanks for the video!

Is there a mic that doesn't make people cringe when they hear their own voice? You have really good audio in your tutorials. Nice shirt!
@skk68113 жыл бұрын
For those of you wondering than why the Neumann costs 36x the price of the Zoom: try put on some EQ and compression, multiband dynamics, time-based effects. It't all about the details and characteristics. For a short sample, you might get close so a pleasing sound, but when it comes to huge dynamics, low-end detail, high-end softening, cabinet resonances, pre-amp self-noise, you can't really beat a Neumann U87.

I have to say, hearing your unfiltered audio - it sounds less harsh and easier to listen to. It allready sounds good so go easy with the compressor/EQ 🙂 Thanks for a great channel with 10/10 content!

Haha...That's kidney money. I used to write EDM. Sonar was my DWS. Logic was too buggy for Windows at the time. I used a Rode NT1 for vocals. Amazing mic for about $200 at the time. I'm fascinated by the similarities between music and art. Both work in the realms of frequencies, only in different ranges of bandwidth. In Trance, where massive, soft/silky, luxurious reverbs can make a track, a person might dampen the low to mid frequencies on a lead synth's reverb, and dampen the mid to high frequencies on a pad to give both separation and space. It's like using Blend If to protect the lows and mids of one layer and the high and mids on another layer. Amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing this new technology Unmesh.
