Like the idea of putting stops in for the plexiglass. I cut the plexi. last time and cracked the first one.

Plexiglass can be tough to work with. It can crack and chip if not careful.

@@WesHamstra Lucky. Usually 3-5 that come through our yard all the time. Squirrel proof feeders are the only answer here. We're two houses away from the closest park, which has a solid acre of trees right there, which is why I think we have so many. Not to mention no predators in the city.

Where do I find instructions/plans? This is the design I am looking for- but I want to modify it so that it can be mounted on a post out in the yard. I don't like swinging bird feeders.....they tend not to last long, especially after Mr. Squirrel pays a visit, lol.

Nice build Wes! I totally agree with the other comments about the Squirrels. Just purchase a larger pole that can be anchored in the ground & has a baffle about 1/2 way up. As long as the little buggers can't jump down from a tree onto the feeder you will be in good shape..... 👍👍😉😉

The pine won't decay over time? Most make it with cedar which I can't find. Might do pine for mine as you did.
@followme823810 ай бұрын
Untreated pine will last 15+ years in this sort of application. Cedar will last longer at 4x the cost. Cedar is a great option if you have a supply or are wealthy enough that the cost or time to get it isn’t an issue. Raw pine treated with Thomson’s water sealer or some other think will last a heck of a lot longer than untreated, even better if you give it a coat once a year.

Nice little project. I suspect the squirrels will enjoy the seed maybe even more than the birds. (And they’ll likely eat through the string)🙂
@WesHamstra4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t seen squirrels in my yard for years. I have aircraft cable to replace it with if they do. If they chew through that then I’m not dealing with normal squirrels.

I’m glad to hear it Wes! Just joking of course, but if the corona thing takes a turn for the worst it wouldn’t be difficult for me to kill three or four per day in my neck of the woods.🙂🤨🤪🙂. I.E. barbecue squirrel grilled squirrel smoked stewed squirrel. 🙂🙂

Nice easy to build bird feeder. Question, what kind of string or twine do you use that doesnt deteriorate in the sun?

It’s drapery cord. I have a huge spool of it. We will see how it holds up.

How do you get your Canon to record long periods of time? I have the Canon T3 and T3i and it's known for them to stop recording within minutes of starting. I'm a woodworker as well but would love to use my Canon equipment for recording. Thank you and great video.
@WesHamstra4 жыл бұрын
Never heard of that problem. I used to use the t5i never had issues with it recording for long periods. I now am using the canon m50. It’s an amazing camera. If I were you, I would upgrade to the m50. The t3i i has horrible auto focus.

Where do you get the plexiglass? Not in stock at the big box stores in TN.
@WesHamstra4 жыл бұрын
Great question. Try sign shops. My dad used to be in the sign business. He has a ton of plexus glass. That’s where I get mine from
@Wordsnwood4 жыл бұрын
Curious, as around here the big box stores all carry plexiglass -- Home Depot for sure. Did you ask in the plywood section? Here they have it with the sheet goods in the back - where they also have those lattice fence sections and things. Otherwise a glass + mirror place may have some, but I bet it'd be paying through the nose. Go with Wes's suggestion, but maybe ask if you can check the dumpster behind the sign business, as you don't need much and it can be pricey...
@dexterbutler97354 жыл бұрын
Lowes normally have it in the paint section.

I don’t get it. No instructions on measuring or wood sizes. The average diy,er doesn’t have these type of tools. This is a great feeder. But no real help to me( or many I would suppose) why not supply the plan. I also notice many ask the sane question in the comments ( but those are always ignored by you)
@peterc22483 ай бұрын
If you aren't bright enough to work out your own sizing then should you really be using sharp tools? Why not get out from behind your keyboard and do something useful, like make a KZbin video of your own?
